Can someone tell me how the techs complete this process or direct me to a link?

I asked the dealer before I picked my Tacoma up to check it and they said it was to late in the day and that they would do it if I would bring it back earlier in the day... Brought it back in and got the run around saying it was a long process that involved draining all the fluid and removing the pan and lines? Is any of this true, I thought I had read somewhere that there was a just a plug that needed to be removed at a certain temp to check?

OMG those service techs amaze me ..i questioned them and ask them to check mine and they said they did, i asked what method they used to check and the guy said " we connect the tech stream and it shows no low fluid faults " ... in other words my dealer service dept did not check it the correct way. They also were smart asses with me and said " its a sealed unit and can't be low " i said .. well what if it was not completely filled at factory ??

Ask them what code it throws if there was a fluid fault.

Thanks! that is exactly what I was looking for. Should I call corporate first or call the dealer say I'm having symptoms constant with the low ATF and see if I can make an apt. to have it checked? Truck has 800 miles on it, nothing drastic in the trans but this has got me nervous and that what I was just considering differences from old truck to new maybe something of concern.

I did. Worked like a charm. My dealership had the truck for 4 hours, but that 1/2 quart (and TSB update) made a huge difference. Empeegees improved too.

The dealer told all that?? That’s one of the biggest pack of B/S nonsense I’ve heard of as of yet and I’ve heard a lot.

But more importantly why do you want it checked?
It’s not meant to be constantly checked because is not a consumable item like your oil. If it was it would tell you so in your owners manual.
Moreover, your power-train is adoptive learning technology and will be changing and adopting. Mine smoothed out all the way to 1800 miles on the ODO. I have almost 9k now and is perfect. And I've never had the ATF level checked as of yet.

If you’re having shift quality issues there’s a TSB to deal with that, it does not even mention or require an ATF check.
    TSB forum ink:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...6-shift-feeling-enhancments-pdf.441262/unread

You can also find the link at the top of the forum on a sticky. Just download the pfd file, print it and present it to your dealer, but I wouldn’t got to that dealer, for ANYTHING, find another one.

You should have a sheet (pdi) on your glove box with an itemized list of items checked off, make sure the ATF is checked, keep a copy of that in a safe place with the owners manual for the duration of the warranty.
Moreover, would you really want someone like that who told a pack of nonsense messing with you transmission??
    I know I wouldn’t.
Take your vehicle for the free 5k service intervals for the next 2yrs as it makes Toyota totally responsible for all fluid checks as stated in your warranty, and check your oil level regularly on fuel stops on level ground, coolant reservoir, P/S pump reservoir, brake fluid reservoir, check the outside of your tires and you’ll be fine.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

2016s with automatics built between August 2015 and March/April 2016 should all have their fluid checked. Not sure when the factory corrected their fill levels.

Do you have a link to the factory advisory for this?
    Because I haven't been notified.

    Thanks
    Cheers!

I never got a factory notice on it. I simply mentioned it to my service advisor and they did the check. No arguments. Awesome dealership.

What does that have to do with this post?
And btw my build date is Jan/2016 and I have no such notice from Toyota that my ATF is low.
    Do you??
And please stick to the post subject if you’re at all able to do so.

    Thanks
    Cheers!

And to answer your question, no. Toyota does not send a notice out to every Tacoma owner whenever there is an issue. A lot of people have a hard time getting the dealer to even acknowledge a TSB exists.

I love my dealership even more now. They emailed me about it even after they'd done it.

    Ok, I'm just bragging now.

    Thank you!

If it's not coming from Toyota than as far as anyone and any issues that may arise as to the subject, then until and if, the problem does not exist.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

I don't need luck, I have a warranty and the owners manual which clearly states that Toyota is responsible for all fluid checks, not me.
Moreover if you must know, and you shouid also have, I also have a copy of the pdi in a secure place with the manual. In otherr words, I'm covered.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
