So I've got a 2016 Limited that has the tacky plastic underneath the front bumper and I'm looking to replace it with the stock skid-plate that comes on Off-Road models.

I found a seller that will sell me the two pieces that came stock on his Off-Road before he lifted and upgraded the skid-plate. I originally thought I needed to replace the plastic with the two skid-plate pieces but today I looked underneath the bumper and it seems that there is the front skid plate behind the plastic and all that's missing is the second half, which covers more of the undercarriage.

Is the front piece that is behind the plastic on my limited the same as the front piece on the Off-Roads? If so, should only buy the 2nd piece(lower piece in the thumbnail) and remove the plastic?

    Thanks for your help guys,

From what I recall on the second gens the "skid plate" is really only sufficient to keep little rocks and stuff from getting in. Doesn't seem to be strong enough to protect against slamming down on rocks etc.

Edit: I think you want like 1/4 inch or something for a true skid plate but I have no idea. Hopefully someone else can confirm

You only need the second lower plate in the picture you posted. They are the same for the forward plate.

Remove the air dam by taking out the 7-8 bolts holding it up.

These skid plates are from Toyota don't forget, any real offroad slamming on rocks should be handled by any of the aftermarket manufacturers. CBI , RCI , mobtown, all pro

The questions is, why would you take your "limited" off road?
Its not set up for it and damaging anything underneath is an expensive slap to your wallet.
If you stay on the pavement.. you will really never need to add these...

Sick comment, what exactly is he not setup for? Why wouldn't he take his truck off-road, because he has a limited badge? Unless he is doing some serious rock crawlin, he can go where you go. Shit, frigin 4X2 Tacos are capable as hell offroad as well.

The Off-roads don't have real skid plates either. More of a splash guard. If you want real skid plates, you're gonna have to buy aftermarket.

So you're saying the 4x4 in my limited is only for pavement use? Who'da thunk it?

I think the path you're going is fine with OR skids. I'd be more worried about the tires as I think the Limited tires are more asphalt based.

The stock skids suck. Order up some Pelfreybilt ones if you really want protection

No they won't. Mine folded like a piece of paper from hitting a small rock going 1-2mph. They are embarrassingly thin metal and are nothing more than brush guards. The factory skids on my Grand Cherokee were way more stout.

I got an aluminum front and steel transmission/tcase skid from Relentless. Much better.

OP, I don't see you mentioned it but is your ltd a 4X4?
As far as I know 4X4 have a metal skid plate. I have an SR5 4x4, and it came with metal, not plastic plates.
If your limited is 2X4 your off-road capabilities will be very limited, no pun intended
But no worries enjoy, you'd be surprised how much off-road you can do with ATRAC, LSD on a 2x4 with the proper skill & techniques, but you are still limited :/ .

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
