I have driven my 2012 for 2 months with the factory lights. They are sufficient, but having come from a Mazda3 with HIDs, it's pretty miserable. I've just ordered new LED based headlights with 5500k upgrades. They'll be delivered by the end of the week and i hope the install will be easy.

Drive it at night and decide for yourself. Too many factors go into that opinion for it to be a viable internet question.

If you find that you would like them brighter, this is a great option for road use that @crashnburn80 developed https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-ultimate-headlight-upgrade-not-led-or-hid.398066/

For off road use, there is a pile of options to evaluate.

That depends on how your eyes see, everyone is different. I replaced my halogen bulbs with the Philips Extreme Vision bulbs and like the brighter/whiter light

.... had the truck 2-months and have not driven it after dark yet ????

The IIHS is now starting to rate headlight performance on new vehicles, and while they may meet the minimum requirement it is amazing how many receive the rating of poor for performance/saftey standards.

As Clearwater Bill mentioned above, I would suggest this upgrade as a cost effective, high performance, plug and play solution that will not cause blinding glare to other drivers:

@Hoff I have the TRD Sport. Lights are fine.
Esp if you are coming from conventional headlights.

These are projector head lights and TRDs and Limiteds come with brighter bulbs.

Nope they're pretty dim. You should put some LEDs or HIDs in there.

If they're too dim, just drive everywhere with the brights on! :D

I'm kidding. If you have some vision troubles and you're older (like my pops) I still think you'll be OK but you could look into aftermarket headlamps if you really do have trouble seeing at night. Honestly they're fine for me but I'm in my 30s and have perfect vision. YMMV

I opted for a HID upgrade since my previous had HID's as well. I've read on here that the LED headlight kits do not project as far as the factory bulbs so that sealed the deal on HID's for me. But it's really personal preference and what you plan on doing with the truck.

You'll be fine. If not, drive with your high beams on all the time like every other un levelled, coal burining, 5th wheel carrying, lifted Fuel wheeled, windshield cracking road grit tossing puke in the prairies.

Or, turn your lights on because you may just have the drl running

The headlights in these are plenty bright enough, especially with the high beams on.

I still feel the need to rip mine apart, add better projectors with the best bulbs and ballasts as well as throw a third and fourth projector in the high beam spot. But it's kind of my job... lol

Coming from a 13' Focus ST (which had HIDs) to a 16' Tacoma, the lights are abysmal. Definitively doing LEDs or HIDs at some point, I've heard some talk that LEDs while extremely bright and you can select the color temp, they don't project as far as HIDs or even a good set of halogens.
