I wonder how many people will "bail" and sell their truck and drive something else because they can't stand the garbage engine/tranny that Toyota put out to begin with ?

Took 2 1/2 hours. Trans fluid was checked manually so had to let the temperature drop. Report attached, but trans fluid was filled by a 1/2 quart. TSB applied. The drive home felt much better. Hopefully image quality is decent. 20160802_231803.jpg

maybe i should do the software update

i loose power going up hill...shift lag from P to R and D...i have experienced the flares...i feel the harsh lunge forward...i drive normal (not towing anything or speeding) and im averaging 14 to 15 mpg

any one in San Diego that has done the update?

I had my flash completed yesterday and it seems like throttle (or transmission) response is much better. I don't have to mash the gas pedal nearly as much as I had to before the upgrade to get the same level of response. This is the way the truck should have arrived from the factory in the first place. I suspect Toyota was playing around with the ECM trying to squeeze the most gas mileage out of the engine/transmission for the government tests. I'm willing to give up a little mpg for the improved response and drivability.

I had a flat - rock puncture in the thick part of the tread block - on my TRD's P-metric Wrangler Adventures last week. Coincidence or bad luck, maybe, but my first flat in 20 years and it was on a mild gravel road. I would have thought the Pro would get LT tires.

Agreed. This is a completely different revision and it changes throttle mapping, shift points, torque converter lockup points, down/upshift schedule and it also seemed to refine the power delivery. Before my engine would "surge" if you dipped into the throttle without ECT on - all of that is gone now. You can hear a difference in the engine and how it winds out when switching between ECT and Non-ECT mode as well. The truck's driveability has improved significantly post update. The only thing they couldn't work around was their steep OD gears, but the new shift schedule seems to eliminate most of the bogging the truck would do before. I put about 30 miles on it last night and it's so much better. It also nearly instantly downshifts if you ask for a bit more acceleration. Launch Calibration = FAIL. Revised Calibration = Give those engineers a raise!

If it's anything like my dealer, the grunt service guys dont know shit. You have to ask or have the grunts ask the lead service techs. Also, ask them to look it up. Could be you are the first person in for it and they aren't aware yet, but they can look up TSB's.

Are you hearing of folks outside of Tacoma World that are having issues? I have heard of a couple myself. I know that a few of my friends/family have opted to buy something else or wait rather than going with the 3rd gen at this point. I thought you were pretty high on the third gen yourself, are you just being sarcastic?

It's better but there is still room for improvement. I'm still getting some dead pedal in the 45mph range. If I go to punch it there's a significant delay in kickdown at 35 to 45mph. Also they need to figure out the shift flare from 2nd to 3rd gear when the transmission is cold in the AM, it slips/flares when trying to downshift between 2nd and 3rd the tach winds up about 800rpms.

I wrote Toyota yesterday expressing my appreciation for them addressing this issue. Everybody calls/writes to bitch about something but they (Toyota) should also get some recognition for coming up with a fix. No mistake, they were obliged to do this since the initial software was defective but I am still glad they did it so effectively and relatively quickly.

I've hated my truck since the day I bought it . My list of issues and oddities was longer than most people's . I work down a very long nasty winding part pavement part gravel road . Honestly I hated driving my truck . I just had the update .... I came skidding into the parking lot today like I was Ivan Stewart . Thanks TACOMA WORLD !!! My truck is fixed !image.jpg

I don't have any of those issues. I did prior to the update but attribute some of the shift flaring due to being two quarts low on fluid. It was rock solid today - first day I've driven it when cold and the transmission didn't piss me off.

I'm at the dealer right now and the truck is in the bay. Getting 5k service and hopefully the TSB Flash. The service writer was aware of the TSB but seemed reluctant to want to do it. Wants to test drive and duplicate the symptoms. We'll see what happens. I'm gonna be pissed if they don't do it.

Taco is at the dealership as I type this...

The service writer said they did the 10,000 mile service when I brought it in for the 5,000 mile service and said they will do the 15,000 mile service now.

I said "no, I took the vehicle in for the 5,000 mile service and expected the 5,000 mile service to be done. Now I'm here at 10,200 miles and I expect the 10,000 mile service - including the TSB update to be done."

He said he didn't know why they did the 10,000 mile service at 5,000 miles but will research it. Bas'tids!

We'll see what they actually do - I will call Toyota and talk to them directly if they don't do the 10,000 mile service...

Agree it drives much better overall, still a few holes I think they may need to plug. Unless my truck truly is just a lemon.
