Curious if anyone's tried to fit a 285/70r17 or 285/75r16 in the stock location?

Would like a full size spare just not sure what I'll do with it yet.

It will hit the driver side shackle hanger.
    My 265/75/16 contacts mine.

I think I read on a thread here somewhere it will fit, but there's a small piece you have to cut....let me see if I can find it again....

I installed a full size (18") spare tire- Nitto Grappler G2 285/65R18 tires on Mayhem Rampage 8090-8997MB18 rim- The tire just clears the exhaust pipe (about 1/2")DSC04474.jpg DSC04469.jpg

And.... before I purchased the full size spare, I used one of the tires already on the truck as a test to see if it would fit- it did.

Can you share a few pictures of how the metal lip holds the rim in place? Any worry about scratching your rim? I have a wheel/tire replacement ready to go, just not sure how well it will hold under the bed, as it is slightly heavier than the factory steel wheel.

The rim is installed outside up- the guy who sold me the rim told me that the finish might corrode in this position, and I am not concerned- I plan on 5 tire rotation.IMG_4387-1.jpg IMG_4388-1.jpg

Did you have to bend or cut anything?

I did not bend or cut anything. The 285 tires were already on the truck when I bought it, so for me it was easy- just lowered the stock spare and put a full size wheel back to make sure it fit before I purchased the full size spare-it fit fine. I understand that the overall diameter of the tire differs with different makes and models, so best bet would be to try it for yourself - if possible-

Thanks, that's good to hear! My truck also came with 285's but the dealer left the stock spare. I didn't even think about that until I got the truck home otherwise I would have negotiated that into the deal.

New here...Just put 285 70/r17 K02s on my 2017 Tocoma OFF road. Wondering if anyone has replaced the spare stock tire with this size? Fit? Read the post G2 285 65 r18 fit, but not sure if the 285 K02 dimensions are the same.

I've seen a picture on IG where somebody mounted 285's as a spare. He said he shortened exhaust and modfied the heat shield. Trying to look for the post but can't find it!

BFG’s(especially ko2’s) run small. I’d be willing to bet that it will fit.

I know this is a old thread, but I just got a set of 265/75-16 duratracs. Didn’t do the spare just because I didn’t know. But seeing your comment I’m curious, you said it touches that shackle hanger. I figured that, but does it fit even with touching? Like do you have it up in there or that touching made you not put it?

Actually, I now have about 1/2" of clearance.
Guess it went up different the the first time I put it back there.
