i try to check my oil level every 2nd fuel stop but after over 2500miles of rental car break-in driving; this thing hasn't needed a drop.

anyone here having to add oil well between changes?

And people are concerned about Toyota using 0w-20 grade oil, thinking its too thin.

I didn't use any oil the first 5k. This oil change I put 5w20 in. Got it cheap and there is no need for 0w in the summer heat. I'll go back to 0w20 in the fall.

Ppl still check their oil after fuel stop?
Good idea, I prob should ck mine every now & then, but I usually drain out what I put in so I'm used to gas & go.

It better NOT burn oil or smitty99 might get new competition on who can write the most negative posts lolo!
No worry mates, just J/K, I've got useful things I need to do...Sometimes!

    Cheers!

My 2006 Taco and my 2003 Honda Goldwing have used "0" oil in all the years Ive had them.... I just drained and filled... it was a waste of good oil everytime I wiped the dip stick off to check..(that's all they ever used).. I'd expect the same performance from the '16 Taco as well...

PS... It helps when you park on a nice clean concrete driveway... (see oil drip right away if it happens)..

Modern engines don't usually leak, but rather burn the oil.

If I have to add this much oil, I'll either burn the engine up or drive a classic.

"significant numbers of consumers have to add a quart of oil to their engines as frequently as every month."

“Oil consumption is normal on all engines,” BMW spokesman Hector Arellano-Belloc said in an e-mailed statement. “BMW vehicles have long intervals between oil changes (10,000 miles). BMW engines (excluding the BMW M) may consume up to one quart of engine oil per 750 miles under certain driving conditions.” He added that BMW’s M performance models may consume even more oil than that.

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

And how else do you think engines use oil?

Bad rings? We don't have performance engines so oil volatility isn't going to be an issue here.

Right on man... You are right...!!

Either way, I don't think these modern motors "use" oil like back in the 60's.... I used to work as a gas jockey and always checked under the hood while fillin' up the customer's car.... They used to be real low at times... and BLACK too.... eugghh.., Glad that's all gone..

And more with bad rings. Blow by= compression blowing by the rings.

Yup. So tell me what blow by has to do with oil consumption.

Pressurizes the crankcase. Either forces oil out external seals or through the PCV system where it is then burned.
