I can't speak to anywhere specific in Pierce county but look for a place that recharges fire extinguishers, that's been the best source I've found for re-fill in Everett.

you guys always have good advice for me so ive got another quick question. im running 265/70/17 duratracs on my 4runner right now with 5100s @ 2.5".

ive got no issues with those, but im wondering if i would be able to go up a size to 285/70/17 on the stock rims.

i have no good reason for going up a size other than looks.

Your factory size is 30". Your current size is 31". The size you are talking about going to is 33", 2 sizes up. What that will do is take away power and fuel economy from your runner. If you are going for more ground clearance then look into 32" unless you need more than that. 285/70/17 on a Tacoma requires 3" lift and frequently also requires cutting and trimming. To determine wheel size, first number ÷ 25.4 x second number ÷ 50 + third number. First number is tire width in mm. Second number is profile as a percentage of the tire width. Third number is rim size. Width of tire can mean the difference between rubbing tires and not. 255/85/16 is a 33" tire and doesn't require trimming like 285/75/16 and can still fit stock rims as well.

I wish I had a lift and an air conditioned garage that fit my truck, but I think everything is OK otherwise. I don't know if I will need a spring compressor (I plan on taking off the spring for measurements), that information varies by the video/website. I think I just back off the preload and then slip out the bottom cup.

This is not completely true. I'll break down my thoughts in response:
    1. From what I have seen of our vehicles, the biggest killer on MPG and power has indeed been tire size, much more than weight. I've accepted the power loss, and the MPG loss just comes with the territory. You can recover via regearing if you wish to pay for that.
    2. Ground clearance isn't something I'd worry about as much. There's many excellent drivers I've been around that have out-wheeled many of us even though they have less clearance. However, it is a nice thing if that is a concern, or a style that interests you
    3. 285s only require a 2.5" lift. That's all an OME gives you.
    4. Cutting/Trimming is needed to different levels on a per-situation basis, but it is needed. I was rubbing the frame on 255s with stock rims, and I'm not talking about the cab mount area.
    5. Difference between 255 and 285 is large. 255 can feel more precise, 285 feels more cushy. Unless you add extra width via spacers or rims, you feel like you are on stilts with 255s, and it can be unnerving with cornering.
    6. 255s have very limited options in models
    7. There are many reports showing the 255 size to be superior for offroad use, but I didn't find it to be such a level that I can't make things happen with a 285
    8. 285s demand a spacer or an aftermarket rim with less backspace, something near 4.25"
    9. Either size requires new upper control arms.

Mike, is 3 guest vehicle number or trucks allowed to be worked on? Or total people allowed to be over? I'm possibly able to come and kick it for awhile if my plans in pdx that night work out.

ugh. i didnt really want to spend extra money since it was for looks anyways. the 265/70 have given me no balancing issues or anything so i guess ill just stick with that. i just liked the beefier look.

I assume you are looking for primitive camping, not organized campgrounds? There is a lot of stuff north of there, around Lake Wenatchee and also both north and south of Cashmere. Not Leavenworth, but not too far from there.

I'm really starting to get the bug to get a group of folks to go on a mini excursion for a week or two. I have never been to Utah, Idaho, Colorado, or surrounding states (school and work has always been prohibitive).

I'd like to take some time and plan it out and make it memorable. That way we can all get full family buy in if necessary. Some of us work in professions where we need to submit vacation requests in advance. It'd also be cool to reach out to some other members in surrounding areas to meet up in the other states.

    Thoughts?

Ya, I try to avoid the campgrounds when possible. I figured I would just head up into the area and have a look around, stop at whatever looks nice. Would be nice to find something along water.

My family of four has been doing two one week vacations each summer for last four years. When we started family tent camping in 2013 my kids were two, and under one! We usually go to Sierra Nevada Mountains this time of year.

Making a trip plan helps if you have more time to plan. The more people involved, more time helps.

Utah is one of the neatest States to explore. Ten years ago, i explored from the Wasatch mountains in Salt Lake city, down to Moab and Arches national park, over two weeks. I visited again in 2008 to ski with my wife, so fun! I've been trying to plan another trip out there.

Next year I might go to Colorado for a week to visit family, depending on how that shapes up, I might double down, and explore for another week.

Lots to see and do, and not enough time...

number of parked vehicles; I have to put my buddy's car somewhere else without trying to crowd the neighbors. So far it's just me and Cody, so come on by.
I've been putting in long hours the last two days at work, probably doing another 14hrs today, but I need to get that truck road-worthy. It really hasn't moved since TSF.

At this point in time, you will probably want to aim for next year to get a group from on here for a full week. I am near Spokane and haven't gotten anything more than mod meets over here, mostly because I don't know the trails enough to lead. Boise area has quite a few more people, and some well built trucks, and people seem to be more willing to go out on trails.

Plan meets with you as leader, letting everyone know that it is an exploration trip. Things may be boring or might end abruptly because of adverse situations (closures, difficulty, etc.), but over time you will learn.
That's how any of us have to do it. The only requirement is a mature viewpoint on what your capabilities are and realizing what constitutes a safe trip. No one will ever be upset about getting home in one piece.
