Picked up a MMG 2016 DCSB TRD Sport 4X4 today for the wife. I'll continue to drive the old 2004, which has 120,000 miles and still going strong (it's been paid off for 7 years). I've had the 2004 for 12 years and it's the best vehicle I've ever owned in my life.

It's a vastly different driving experience between the two trucks. I had never driven or even rode in a 2nd Gen Tacoma. Skipping over a generation makes the 2004 seem so crude and rudimentary compared to the smooth and refined 2016. Hoping the wife can get as good of service from the 2016 as I've had from the 2004. Other than scheduled maintenance, the only trouble has been the front O2 sensor at around 78,000 miles.

Sweet ride, but I just can't get past the grill after all this time.

I'm not a big fan of the grill either, but the wife loves it.

It's true.... when the wife isn't happy, no one in the whole damn house can be happy until things change quick.

The wife has already hinted at some auto vent shades, bug shield and wheels and tires. And so it begins.....

OP, I think that 04 has earned a pair of new headlights! Other than that, looking really good!

Your right, the 04 has definitely earned its wings and it does need a new set of headlights. I've looked at several different pairs but haven't made a final decision yet. Gonna get some good ones though because I plan to keep the 04 for many many years to come.

Congrats! I know there are a lot of differences but I'm curious, what are a couple of your favorite things on the new truck compared to the old?

I went from '01 to '15. My wife loved driving the 1st gen and hates the lower visibility and bulkier size of the '15. Fine by me - she spends more time in her Honda now :)

Good call. I got rid of my 2003 TRD OR 4x4 xcab SR5 V6 M/T after owning it for 8 years. I had just under 80k miles on it. It was a beautiful truck (pics in profile) and in excellent condition still. I just got sick and tired of driving that M/T in LA Traffic. I sold it for $15K in 2011 (it was over KBB value) to a younger guy who was headed off to college and wanted a truck for off road purposes. He just fell in love with my truck at first sight and he said that the Manual Trans Tacomas that were essentially unmodded were so rare, he had to have it.

I should have never sold that truck.
