I kinda of agree here, Sam @LTDSC. Even on my Prerunner with a Hybrid bumper, 600# springs weren't enough and had no preload, and they still rode like shit. I mean, obviously valving was off, but I really think you should have stuck with 650# springs. ;/

I'd get new springs too. No different than bolting on a plate bumper/skids for a Tacoma.

Plus that extra inch of spring means nothing. They're going to be really soft.

WTF? 20s on rebound makes zero sense. Same unsprung weight as a taco.

Edit...are we talking front or rear?

Yup, fronts. I haven't verified the taco ones, but the 4R ones I checked when I revalved.

Jason, the question here is if Sam can run Brian's old Kings on what is most likely off the shelf valving with 600# coils for a Tacoma on his v8 4runner.

    Vs

Is what weve gathered as valving differences between the two. James, is that with 14.600 springs?

Lets just beat this to death again.
As long as the shock travel is less than the gap between the coils, spring length doesn't fucking matter! 600 lbs spring rate is 600 lbs.

Revalve it no matter what. 20 stack on rebound is terrible.

Thats what as posted as the valving on an off the King shock for a 4runner. Sam picked up a set from a Tacoma which we believe is the off the shelf valving posted above as well. It doesnt have a .20 stack on rebound.

I understand that, thats what i did in my application. I was just asking your opinion on whether or not you feel the Tacoma COs and they way they are valved off the shelf would be sufficient for Sam to run on his 4runner until he does rip them apart is all.

But maybe hes just got to put them on and test and then figure out if valving and/or a spring rate change is necessary.

Thats all I was asking mang.

That valving is on all King OEM shocks regardless of spring rate, as far as I am aware.

A small handful of select mods.
FWIW I had my old BOSS 2.0 shocks "refreshed" to put on my wife's V8 4 runner 4th Gen. They actually took off the 650lb springs and put on 600lb springs. It rides great with the 600lb spring but her's does not have a bumper or winch........yet! :D

They're installed. They sit a little tall as is but I'm going to give it a day or two to settle a bit and then adjust accordingly.

Only driven around town so hard to judge anything yet.

I didn't know you had Cooper ST Maxx. How do you like them?

Also, did you just leave the preload alone from what Brian had set?

I like them a lot. I had AT2s before which I liked as well but wanted a 315 and toyo didn't make them. They've done great in snow and sand and loose clay. So far I'm a big fan.

Im still a big fan of the ATII cause they make the 285x75r17 and I can get them for such a good price.

Those ST Maxx are supposed to be really good as well.
