Long Travel BS Thread

    alright guys i am in desperate need of help, i was installing my long travel tonight on my first gen when i hit a snag, the long ass bolt that goes through the upper control arm didnt fit, even though it came out super easily. upon further inspection the sleeve (dont really know what to call it) is oblong and will not allow the bolt to pass through freely. all i can think to do is have that part cut off and to install a new one, the issue with that being that I am not skilled enough, nor do I have the tools to do it. and because i cannot get the upper arm on, i cant put a wheel on the truck to tow it, much less drive it to a shop. What are my options here? If you see this in another thread sorry gonna post it around because I am at a loss. I cant even put my stock stuff back on.

    I think he is talking about where the bolt passes through the coil bucket...if so that is a text book case of one of the issues that double shear gussets save you from :sawzall::welder::itllbuffout:

    Yes
    If that is truly out of round then your bolt must bent to hell...you need to repair that and get a new bolt and add coil bucket / double shear gussets.

    bot seems fine as far as i can tell, I think the part that is truly fucked up is a couple inches up as the threads are small enough to pass through it

    what if you got a drill bit thats the size of the hole or just a hair bigger to ream it out to get the bolt through then just make sure to buy a new bolt and those gussets.. i wouldnt shave out to much though.. or maybe try heating it up to see if it will expand enough to get it through? idk..

    I would love to but I dont know if I can get a drill in at the right angle, its pretty tight. if it wasnt I could probably hammer it through

    Is the bolt head getting caught up in your fender? It might not be the hole at all... Mine did when doing my upper, had to bend the inner fender sheet metal out the way.

    ya its weird it came out all good but its not going in.. have you tried to put it in from the other side to make sure it is the hole and its not getting caught up on something

    I have tried both sides, as far as I can tell its fucked up a few inches up the sleeve, i found a way to jimmy a drill in so tomorrow Im gonna try to shave a teensy bit of it off with that and see if I can squeeze it in.

    hard to tell in the vid but is there a dent in the center of that tube in the coil bucket?

    If the tube is ovaled out it won't be in the middle. It will be at the ends. Only way the middle will be messed up is if something hit it
