I need to do this same thing, how hard was it? Something I can tackle on my own? I want to try to do it before I go back to work next month.

Really easy you need the following:
21mm socket for lugs (assuming stock)
17mm socket for caliper to knuckle bolts
12mm socket for abs sensor line bracket
    C-clamp
    Rope/ wire/ zip ties
    Anti sieze

Obviously rust can make things trickey. Basically remove the wheel, pull cotter pins from caliper slide pins, pull caliper slide pins, remove brake pads, remove abs sensor line bracket, remove 2 caliper to knuckle bolts and tie caliper up/out of way. Remove old rotor, clean hub face and apply liberal anti seize to it. Use c-clamps (or a big ass set of adjustable pliers like I prefer) to compress the caliper pistons. After that just re-assemble.

Thanks, having a set of eyes that know what's what would be a huge help!
Thanks Seth, That's a huge help, I'm sure it'll all make more sense when I'm all up in there!

Plus a reliable set of jack stands, obviously. No working on a vehicle with just the jack, boys and girls.

Probably shouldn't admit to this, but I do things like tire rotations and I'd do brakes off the jack. Basically, as long as I'm not going under the truck. :anonymous:

I always slap the jack stands under there. Part of it's from the safety side of things, since I grew up working on cars in a not-completely-level dirt driveway. The other part of it's for the convenience of not having to worry about damaging parts or how I'm going to get the wheels back on if the jack does slip/collapse.

Hm... When I bought the truck Acton Toyota told me all four brakes were just done. When I did my wheel bearing they definitely weren't done.... Now I need to pull it all apart to do the rear brakes again.

For that spray coating stuff I guess I would need to strip off the rust that's on there now? Haha

Agreed. When I was a kid I had a car roll off a jack (luckily I was not under there. Ever since then there is always something under there to protect me
Clean off the rust, treat and paint before you put on that stuff

Good one, forgot that. Sliders ftw, takes 2 seconds to Jack the truck up with hi lift and pop the jack stands under.

Or if you have a bunch of 6x6 PT. I block my truck up on that. Trust it more than jack stands.

I need to invest in a better(read taller) floor jack and jack stands. Floor jack is.basically useless since it's only a little 2 ton one and it cant even touch my frame without a bunch of cribbing, only the lca or rear diff. Similar for the jack stands, capacity is fine (2ton) but at full extension the front tire is just barely off the ground at full droop (like 0.5"-1"). Having them at max extension is sketchy and.even then I have to use 2 2x4 with an old brake rotor on top for cribbing/so the jack stand doesn't sink into the asphalt.

My jack does fine, but I do not like having jack stands fully extended. I have 2 - 2x12x12 pieces screwed together to use as a footing for the jack stands. Keeps them from sinking in and takes a few inches of height up so the jack stands can be more compressed. If I don't need to remove the wheels and I need to get under the truck For something else, I prefer to just put the front end on a few planks rather than have it on jack stands.

All the above about jacks is very important. I got a little sloppy when I was swapping axles, had a high lift under the receiver hitch, floor jack to support old axle as I took it out, both rear tires under truck, but no jack stands yet o_O....I was overly excited that rusty bolts were actually coming apart that before I knew it I was on my last leaf spring bolt before she was all free......then I felt a weird grown, and then the whole rear of the truck just fell right over  :censored: It went the opposite way from were I was, or I could/would have been crushed. Luckily besides scraping the gas tank with the axle being stuffed into it, a load of grease being blown out the shaft and a bunch of poo in my pants....rig was not injured:anonymous: ....beyond stupid, and very embarrassed

Please use jack stands boys and girls

I nearly gave my friend a heart attack Tuesday night..haha. He just picked up his new Jaguar F-Pace this weekend. I may or may not have shut off all my nanny traction shit and laid down a killer rooster tail in the back parking lot of the bar we play at and his new ride may or may not have been parked there.
