I think the prices are a bit outrageous. The upper trims of the Fords cost 50-60K. But not the most common XL and XLTs.

I'm glad I got my Tacoma gently used for $10K under what a 2016 costs. Because honestly, the truck wasn't worth a dime over what I paid. To me at least. Especially when you consider I need left over change for mods. I don't think mid-sizes are worth much over $30K, so I won't pay that right now.

    Workin' on it....
My thoughts exactly. I bought a gently used 2013 and by the time I'm done with it, it'll be better outfitted and more capable than a 2017 TRD Pro for less money.

i tried to haggle for one earlier this year; 2 of the 3 of my local dealerships allotted pros were already sold and because of that they wouldn't budge on the 3rd one...toyota's marketing department are becoming great con artists..

If your insinuating the quality of the Tundra is inferior to the Tacoma... You may want to check out their forums, a lot of very very happy 2016 Tundra owners with no issues to be had.

And it will still be a 4+ year old truck.

For reference my DCSB TRDOR stickered for $37k. Its all about what the vehicle is worth to you. I got tired of having daily drivers I had to work on all weekend and had to modify to get them to do what I wanted. The tacoma does everything I need it to do and more with a warranty. Im pleased. That may not be the same route everyone else wants to walk down though.

And that's why the Frontier sales are through the roof (for context, check out http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2016/08/best-selling-pickup-trucks-july-2016.html where it shows Frontier sales are up over 30% from last month and over 70% from last year) even though it's last redesign was in 2005. It's the cheapest truck you can get out there by far (if you include incentives - not comparing MSRP) and a lot of people are not willing to spend $40+K on a midsize truck anymore in this economy.

That will be short lived. Just wait until the new Frontiers come out and they'll be priced the same as everyone else.

When did you buy the 2013, how many miles were on it, and what did you pay?

Yes, whenever that is because news outlets have been saying 2015, then 2016, 2017 and now 2018.

Anyways, that's not the point. There is a significant portion of mid sized buyers who are being priced out by the new offerings and that is likely why they are going to the lower priced (albeit dated) and just as reliable Frontier.

A lot. Check out my build page.
It's a pointless thing to argue over but please feel free to price out all of the options you are getting on this TRD Pro in the aftermarket (leather seats with TRD stitching, Fox suspension, upgraded springs, upgraded leafs, rigid LEDs, upgraded grille, upgraded wheels with offset, upgraded kevlar reinforced Goodyear tires, upgraded shock shafts) and tell me what price point you get to. Make sure to include a locking rear that comes on it too.

For a brand new truck with all of these upgrades.....come on guys.....it's pretty solid.

That being said......I will keep my 4.0 motor and the TRD "Pro" that I built from a TRD Off Road. Drove a 2016 as a loaner for a week and I was NOT a fan of the motor.

considering what you save buying a TRD OR you can probably get a similar quality skid plate and suspension for the same.

Really from the sounds of it all you're really paying for is more aesthetics

some of this, a little of that
That's the decision I faced and ultimately I just purchased a 4runner, could not be happier, this thing is insanely nice. Even got my dad to trade his Tacoma in for a 4runner limited

the thing is even with all that you still can't fit 33s on it, since from most post here you need at least 2inch lift before you can fit them and the TRD Pro is only a 1inch lift. At least for all the places I go around where I live, 33s are the smallest you can use to go on the trails here.

Meh the TRD pro is sounding more and more like the raptor. Just a truck for some guy having a midlife crisis that wants to say he goes off roading so buys a fancy truck but the most off road it will ever see is him driving on the grass at his kids soccer game.

Besides from what I've heard those goodyear tires are shit.
Put welded sliders and a winchbar with it then I'll consider it being worth it.

I was looking at the new taco then saw the new 4runner. If it wasn't for the price and need for a bed I'd definitely be buying it instead. Thing is gorgeous.

As many times as I see that video, I can only conclude 1. The guy was drunk/high 2. He is an idiot 3. His wife / long time girlfriend has subsequently left him
