ya i'm pretty sure jammers are illegal. but if you get caught using one you're obviously doing something wrong and deserve it.

 

What's the range on a jammer anyway? I mean, if you're the only car on the road within half a mile, and the cop's radar goes crazy when you're 300ft away, then they know it's you. I bet you'd get pulled over and car checked out for the jammer then ticketed for using it if they found it.

I'd like to have one that jammed everything within 3 miles or so. Then the cops would have a harder time knowing it was me....

 

wait, what? the whole point of a radar/jammer is to alert you to a cop. if your shit goes off, but you dont act on it and ge ta ticket , you deserve to get the ticket (say if a cop paced you.)

 

True. And, IMO, if you have a radar detector that constitutes intent to speed. Why else would you need it? It's not that hard to keep an eye on your speed. And if you get nailed for doing, say, 45 in a 35 because you didn't see the transition, then a detector's not going to do shit for you. So it's not very good at helping prevent the "accidental" speeding tickets. I got pulled over for that. Told the cop I was reading signs on the sides of the road trying to find a store that might sell a blower fan for my pellet stove (middle of winter), and saw the 30mph sign as soon as I saw him coming at me. He let me go with a warning, and just told me to go to the DMV around the corner for a sticker for my address change. May have been a different story had he seen a "fuzz buster" on my dash.

 

You get what you pay for. I have had a cheap one before and noticed all they really do is tell you, "you have been caught." i have a passport 8500 now and i never get tickets. I paid 325.00 for mine but have to say i have probably saved that in tickets already. I want to get the new passport 9500i 450.00 new, but again i am sure it will save me money in tickets.

 

I was going to point that out, but I thought I'd be stating the obvious.... But maybe not...

 

I have a cheap Belltronics from Radio shack...100 bucks but it competes with the big boys. I use it to let me know if I forgot to slow down from 55 to 25 and the cop is right there. I might be coasting into the 25 trying to not work the brakes but if it chirps I'm on the pedal fast. 0 tickets with the unit, I don't speed that much but when I do I don't feel "naked"

IMHO, a $100 unit here will save you a $212 + dollar ticket and 5 years of increases on your insurance down the road. Well worth the investment.

 

I can maybe understand putting $100 down as an investment towards less tickets and lower insurance rates, but I have hard time seeing a $300-$400 unit saving money unless I'm hardcore speeding and avoiding $200-$300 tickets more than once.

Personally, I think it's just easier and cheaper to slow down and pay more attention to speed limits (and everything ELSE that's going on for that matter). Way too many people don't have a clue what's going on around them when they drive. I've almost been driven off the road by a few of those people. So if no detector means you pay more attention, then I'm all for it!

And before anyone says anything, I've had 2 detectors in the past and got tickets with both of them. They either didn't go off, or went off just as I was nailed. And zero speeding tickets since I got rid of them 4 years ago.
