At least Shitty didn't start a new thread to continue his bitching. Just revive a dead one.

So Shitty, seriously...why do you still have the Tacoma? Anyone who reads all of your whining knows you hate it so please tell us why? Why?? I'm thinking you'd look really good in a Ridgeline!

Because I choose to hold Toyota accountable to fix the issues on my $40K truck rather than take a 5 or 6 grand loss on trade in. If Toyota can not fix, I will keep bringing it in until they buy it back or it qualifies for lemon law.

EDIT: If someone from Toyota Corporate wants to shut me up: buy my truck back and give me a new 2017 that does not have squeaking leaf springs, driveline vibrations, broken hood adhesive bonds/vibration and a rear differential that doesn't howl and need to be replaced. Or just give me back what I paid for the truck and I'll delete my TW account. You can have the POS. :)

Yeah, things don't always work out the way they should. I'm with Smitty on this one. All of the things that he's mentioned sound fixable, and like warranty issues. Toyota knows that they have a new model that's bound to have some growing pains and they should make it good. It's a bit disappointing to hear that its not right and that Toyota isn't addressing the issues. Keep at it Smitty, don't let the bastards get you down.

I will keep putzing around in my 1st gen taco with the dash rattle fix (piece of paper) until they fix the 3rd gen issues. Poor Smitty.

after a couple thousand miles with the new TSB, a few of the issues that were fixed, are now creeping back (smitty99 was correct about the placebo effect). Also, the buzzy/vibration in the steering wheel around 2000 rpm is starting to be felt with 10,100 miles on the odometer. This truck just doesn't have enough TORQUE to satisfy me...especially with my new bigger/heavier trailer. So, I traded this truck off for a new Silverado 5.3L w/ 383 lbs of torque. I will miss the tech stuff of the Taco, room behind the seat, and it's awesome JBL...But, now I can use cruise control with hills and pull my trailer and this new truck doesn't even downshift what so ever. Goodbye Tacomaworld. It's been fun and educational while it lasted. I hope ya'll enjoy your trucks and hope some of you with issues gets them resolved.

Wow man sorry to see you go. Honestly I think it's better if we all stick together and push back on this subpar crap coming from Toyota. But I understand your frustration and impatience as I am often in the same boat.

Enjoy the new truck!!!! It looks sharp!

Threads like this really get the fan-boy crowd fired up. It is funny that people will maintain so much brand loyalty to a product, especially one that has numerous shortcomings. Clearly we all like the Tacoma but attempting to turn a blind eye to problems, and/or attack those who choose not to, only justifies Toyota's decision to release a product that appears to fall short.

I agree. It reminds me of current Jeep owners and their loyalty to that brand even with issues.

If the automotive forums were around in the 80's and 90's it would have been a shit show for pickups back then.

Paint issues, bedbox rust, lack of power, bare bones amenities, transmission and engine vibes, ball joints, head gasket failure, sludge build up all kinds of things to complain about on the trucks back then that people say built the reputation that Toyota enjoys today.

Toyota truck frames have always had a susceptibility to rust at the junction in front of the fixed side of the leaf springs. And bed, that's no kidding. It wasn't until 1989 that their beds didn't come off the lot starting to rust. Truth is it's always been that they /run/ forever and that's mostly still true. We hear about wheel bearings failing early or some transmission issues but mostly the drivetrains for Toyotas still are probably fine.

And even then do you dare mention the 3VZ head gasket issues? Also people may not remember but the first trucks, with the L43 4-speeds for example, ate input bearings that were way undersized for the way Americans drive their trucks. We tend to lug them worse than Toyota expected and the Interstates were also extremely tough on trucks designed to bounce around secondary roads at 50 MPH, not sustain 70 MPH for hours.

These types of threads remind me what an old timer told me when I was working on houses. We used to say they don't build houses like they used to, right? But he said think about it this way, all the shitty built houses and shanties thrown up in a hurry had long since fallen apart and been torn down. So what we see as old is really just the best built ones that happen to last.

There were plenty of clunkers Toyota turned out over the years but they've been fixed, modified or are already in the junk yards having been parted out keeping the remaining ones on the road.

I think what we remember is not really what happened back then. I spent a whole lot of time busting knuckles on my old Toyotas and probably will with the Taco. Well, to the extent that they are repairable now, anyway. Toyota is not immune to increasing complexity, all old stuff was fixable. There are 1970s F150s that will last forever because there's just not much to fail.

The one thing I can say that I think is different is that I always had some warning that I needed to fix something, an increase in noise, change in feeling. Something so it was rare to be surprised. But even that, I was blind sided when my timing chain snapped in my 22R-E and left me stranded...

Excellent and valid points Dave. Wonder what other steaming piles Toyota was notorious for... the Celica maybe? EDIT: just remembered the Tercel and the Echo...

Another that comes to mind is the oil sludging issue. I can't say I know details on it or if it was something real or hyped. The media likes to pile on when Toyota stumbles for some reason.

Back then you were lucky to get a vehicle to last the duration of the loan. Toyota's had plenty of problems but they were better than the rest at the time.

I completely agree with you on this @smitty99. I went one step further though and actually got rid of my POS. Sold it back to a dealer for a loss. However, I am not done by a long shot. I was outright lied to by one dealership about the ATF level (I have documentation proving they lied). I had transmission and rumble strip problems addressed by several different dealerships, and a "Toyota Field Specialist", that were deemed "normal" and "characteristics" of the vehicle. Toyota has released a TSB to address the "normal characteristic" of the automatic transmission used by the V6. Of course this occurred after I got rid of that POS. So since when are TSBs released to repair a non-problem?

    One hint: NEVER.

I've taken action in regard to the fact Toyota does not fully honor their ToyotaCare warranty as it pertains to checking all fluid levels. I am with you on receiving a return for my expenditures while owning that junker. Keep posting the issues you are experiencing with your "truck" and ignore all the blind, overzealous Kool-Aid drinker comments. True Tacoma fans wouldn't denigrate legitimate comments about issues with a truck they hold near and dear. I'm happy for those owners that have trucks they never have an issue with, but they need to wake up and realize there are some trucks produced that aren't worth the dirt road they are driving on.

Are you the one who has the State Attorney General looking into the Toyota Care Plus checking fluids are full issue? Someone posted a letter from the Kansas Attorney General to Toyota Corporate. I thought that was pretty awesome. If you have documented the process and some of your correspondence for alerting your state officials I would be happy to follow suit here in AZ. @deergetr I believe also was going down a similar route.
