It seems like just about every Tacoma owner I meet or see on the road is 30ish or younger. I know the old guys are supposed to drive Sedans and such (had one for years) but I'm beginning to wonder if I'm the only Tacoma Owner (now on my 2nd) over 50?

To those who are "mature" drivers- do you ever get odd stares from people who see you driving this truck?

I see a 60ish year old woman driving a DCSB almost every day on my way home from work. I stare her down hard.

Almost 60 as well. Not even close to looking like Brad Pitt.

But I did get a lot of stares this past weekend...

No, but they drink all my vodka and refill the bottles with water, they think I don't notice but I can taste the difference when I have some "over the rocks".

I am 56. When I was 16 in 1976 my father bought for me my first vehicle which was a used 1972 Toyota Hi-Lux from our neighbor for $1500. I drove it for three years until one day while going thru an intersection a guy decided to make a left turn into the front end of the Toyota. State Farm said it would cost more to fix the Hi-Lux than it was worth, so they gave me a check for $1800. I came out $300 ahead and got three years use out of the Hi-Lux!

I used the $1800 as down payment on a new 1979 two wheel drive Tacoma. 1979 was the first year Toyota produced a four wheel drive Tacoma. I really wanted the four wheel drive model, but could not afford it so I bought the two wheel drive.

In 1981, I traded the 1979 Tacoma for a new 1981 long bed four wheel drive Tacoma. I drove that for about five years until one day I tried to cross the South Fork of the Kern River in the Sierra mountains. River was much deeper than I thought about five feet. Water went down into the engine and a piston rod went thru the block. That was the end of that truck.

I then bought a used Ford Bronco and drove it until 2000 when Toyota came out with the Tundra. I bought a new 2000 Tundra and drove it for about seven years. It was a great truck. No issues and it was the first year of an all new truck.

I then owned a few different cars until July of 2016 when I bought a new Tacoma Double Cab TRD 4x4 in silver color. It is like being back together with an old friend.
