I might be available, I'll let you know.

Do make sure to consult this map, as there are many trails that appear open, but are actually closed. The only way that you would know this if you had this map--maybe you already have it?

    http://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5213098.pdf

I realized later that I had been on trails that were closed to public usage on my last trip. I have since removed some of my previous tracks, and added others.

Yup I've already seen the MVUP and none of the trails I know I will hit are seasonal. I plan on adding all the seasonal roads to my main map with notes attached so I know out in the field if I'm coming up on a seasonal trail or not.

I'm also sure that there will be plenty of back tracking once I start to get off 600-1 and 600-2 due to closed roads or running into a gate, that's going to be half the fun!

Man I should be game for going. Any way I could talk you into not staying at the campground? There are a million other spots along the trails that are just amazing to camp at for the view. However. It's hot as balls outside right now. And I have a bunch of shit to get built before expo

Agreed, make sure to add the seasonal trails that are opened now though.

Also, instead of hitting that second section of 600-2 (which is just a gravel road), i'll be making a left and taking 637 north.

Yea you absolutely could. I have never done any of the vehicle trails up there. I booked a campsite just to be safe, do you have any coordinates for some dispersed camping that is accessible by 4x4 truck?

I've been in that area a bunch. I've hiked almost the entire Pinhoti but never done any of the 4x4 trails so I'm very green in that area.

Yup that is where my planned route takes me too, I bet that's where most of the back tracking will happen as I run into gates or private property.

Yeah, if the map is accurate, it should all be passable--I hope so.
I think if I go, I'll be staying someplace random along the way. Just need a flat spot for my tent someplace dry and away from water, or the bugs will eat you alive. There is a clearing off 633 just north of Adams Gap that might make a good spot--I think it's within the legal limits of the trail. I took this pic there

Anywhere within the boundaries of the national forest it's legal to do "dispersed" camping unless otherwise marked.

I will be using my new RTT!

Just checked the map. It looks like that area is non-national forest land within the national forest boundary. Oh well, plenty of other places. I have a feeling i'm going to want to be somewhere on 600-2 when I camp, because I want to go back the way that I came, so that would put me in a good position to accomplish that and get back on the road home about mid/late morning.

The RTT is going to be nice I bet.

If you end up joining me on the 26th we can figure it out as we go about the day. I'm about to cancel my camp site reservation and I'll just find somewhere to camp once the mid afternoon hits if I'm by myself.

Which site did you reserve? One of the trails I hike passes through turnipseed, which would probly make for a convenient afternoon stop. It might be pretty crowed though.

I don't know the name of the camp. It was one near the lake below the state camp ground. I already called and canceled. I'll be stopping somewhere along the way and throwing up the RTT for the night.

Brian is the grill man for sure! He made mine, I ended up breaking part of it (it was my fault) and he had me fixed back up and going the following week. Hard to beat customer service like that.

No problem, take some pics and good luck.

I haven't forgot you Dave. I am down to some final sanding and painting. Still need to set up the mesh connectors though and I think that is why I haven't moved on it much. Plus it is miserable outside.

Unless you name is Dave and then you end up waiting all summer. Thanks for the .

I'll be in the area on Saturday but I have obligations Saturday evening and need to be home and it's a 3.5 hour drive back to Mobile for me. Since it's a Friday I also figure I'll run into less people on the roads/trails.
