    Nothing new. Taliban has tried to capture foreigners whenever they can. The whole "we don't negotiate with terrorists" isn't exactly true.
    Afghanistan actually has some really beautiful areas, great photography opportunities. Not to mention that there are tourist companies that target people who want the adrenaline rush of being in a hostile area without having to be under fire (if they are lucky).
    I'd go back as a tourist if it was more stable.
