Stuck CD - Entune Premium

As the title says, my favorite Bluegrass CD will notake eject. Any tips for getting a CD unstuck?

My dealer is willing to order a new head unit if necessary but that seems overkill.

is it trying to eject at all? like is the eject going through the sequence, like stopping play, and making sounds as if it is trying to eject, but cant, or is it just nothing....if its trying to eject but the disc is sliding instead of catching on the rubber grommets that push it out, then maybe some really small needle nose can pull just enough for the disc to catch. other than that there isn't too too much you can do...replace the head unit and buy a new replacement disc. good luck

 

Try unhooking the battery might reset something.

 

Or slap it real hard.

 

Sometimes there is teeny tiny hole you push a paper clip in to release it.
Did the CD have a label on it? Those labels heat up and gum up the mechanism.

The unit is snafu. Look for the teeny tiny release spot.

 

I've had the same problem. Most of the time the CD ejects, but when it doesn't, I swipe a business card or a parking ramp ticket through the opening after pushing the eject button and while it is trying to eject. The CD usually pops right out.

 

Sometimes when you disconnect the battery and reconnect, the radio then does not show a cd in the radio anymore. it happened to me once a long time ago. I ended up removing the radio from the dash and opening up the radio cover.

 

I took my entune out 2 weeks after i bought it and put a jvc i has laying around in. Hate the oem deck. Shitty sound and not loud enough . Jvc brought the oem speakers to life and made them far louder, with 20wrms vs the 2watts the entune was probably pumping out

 

Thanks for the tips. It does try to eject, but only clicks. I tried the business card trick but not inserting needle nose pliers. The CD slot is so thin that there's no way to get pliers in there.

I'll report back after a dealer visit tomorrow.

Also, thanks for the tips on JVC. I have the OEM Audio+ system and it really woke up the system.

small pocket screwdriver is my preferred tool. digging around in there you'll find a small plastic piece that needs to be pressed up, and should then allow the CD to eject. this works 3/4 of the time.
another effective method is "The Fonzie".. give the dash above the radio a nice firm hit with a closed fist, then try to eject again.

as a toyota tech for 13 years, I joke that I have changed out more radios than I have changed oil....and every car comes in for an oil change.
I'm starting to think its actually true.

i've only seen two new tacoma's have stuck CD's, so far.

 

Try turning off the radio then restarting it. Worked for me.

 

Thanks for the post. At the dealer now - we'll see what they come back with. I'm concerned that they'll take measures that could damage the internals or even scratch the face trying to get it out. What a PITA.

 

Oh yeah, and CDs still have awesome sound quality. Much better than compressed music files or Pandora, XM, etc.

 

Update: The CD is out and supposedly the reason it was stuck is because it was a burned cd, so slightly thicker. Several normal CDs worked fine. Drama aborted!

 

CDs are actually pretty low quality sound.
16 bit per sample, 2-channel, 44.1 kHz. That makes 1,411,200 bits per second of uncompressed PCM audio, which is actually incredibly LOW compared to modern audio.
They chose these specifications, because of the technical limitations of optical recording back in the 80's when this storage format was being developed.
Essentially, they wanted the disk to actually be *compact*, yet be able to store a sufficiently long sequence of audio that it would be useful.
So they ended up with 120 mm diameter disk capable of storing up to 1 hour 14 minutes of audio or roughly 640 MB.

Keep in mind that back in the 80's, computer magnetic hard drives were only available in the range of 20-120 MB.

Now modern technology allows everyone to store hundreds of *GIGA*bytes on a thumb drive that's smaller than a pencil. So CDs are pretty seriously obsolete now.

If you look at a high quality *consumer* grade audio recording, you'll be looking at 24 to 32 bits per sample, 2 or more channels, 96 kHz. Or to put that into perspective, PCM audio streams of 6,144,000 bits per second or higher. On a 64 GB thumbdrive, you could store 174 minutes of this kind of audio.

But we aren't done yet.
Yes, audio that is compressed with a *lossy* compression algorithm can have a reduced audio quality, even though it decompresses back to 6 megabits per second. But there are better and worse compression algorithms, for instance, mp3 is a terrible compression algorithm that results in very flawed playback, it can be described as a metalic twang, or "robotic". Vorbis is a much better quality lossy compression algorithm that yields greater levels of compression at higher audio quality. Of course, you aren't limited to lossy compression algorithms. FLAC, for instance, can provide lossLESS audio compression. Now being lossless, FLAC files will be a lot bigger than those compressed with a lossy algorithm, but still a lot better than the raw PCM file. So you'd stretch out that 174 minutes to maybe 250.
