Based on personal experience in the Rock Climbing "community", the cleanup is usually more damaging than the defacement itself. I strongy recommend against wire brushes, sandblasting, or any other mechanical methods. The result is a big scar that removes the outer mineral layer of the rock and it will never look the same again (as long as humans are here). There are some chemical strippers that will only kill the lichens and other elements on the rock, which will eventually come back.

This stuff really bothers me, and the "its no big deal" attitude is even worse. Long ago I decided that I will no longer clean up other people's shit, unless it is a direct threat to wildlife. The only ones that trash and graffiti really bother is us, and if we humans want to shit where we eat, then far be it from me to clean it up for you.

"Hang on guys, let me take a pic of my vandalism so i can share it on the internet!"

Hope he's serious about cleaning it up...and learning a lesson. Hopefully the law doesn't come down on him.

The guy fucked up I get it, tires spinning on rocks doesn't do the same thing? Half of the jeeps driving in MOAB drop some oil so how is that any worse?

So we've heard from @rutacoma, who wasn't linked here until like the 6th page or so.

Still haven't heard from @TorconTRD, the original reason this thread started (and literally the first word of the entire thread).

And y'all are wanting us to back off?

Yep. Reminds me of the thread where a TW member pushed a vehicle down a mountain ravine "to get it out of the way" or whatever dumb ass reasoning. I believe the local authorities ended up getting a hold of him.

One time a land rover was parked across a trail trapping me in, I pulled it out of the way since I couldn't find the owner and I told the forest service about the abandoned vehicle. They got mad and said it was illegal to drag the truck out of the way. They are strict on stuff like that! Couldn't imagine how they reacted to somebody pushing it off a cliff! Who does that?

I'll believe he's going to make it right when I see pics or video of him actually doing so.

Saying he's going to do it is not anywhere remotely close to actually doing it.

Until then, the floggings will continue.

Why not wait until after he does or does not do it? That would be the mature thing to do.

Yes back off, it's not like you've never done anything wrong ever in your life. He said they, I'm guessing as a group, are going to clean it up. There's no reason Torcon should have to answer to You anyway. If they clean it up perfect, if not, shame on them. The weather will wear it off anyway.

Because our trucks don't cause any damage or defacement in nature?:notsure: Not saying what he did is ok but at the same time that tree you winched off might now permanently be weakened or might not grow as tall. Or parking on that rock could be causing undo stress to the rock just saying this could be spun a number of ways.

Good, hopefully they just close the whole area down to off-road travel. Solves all the problems.

Looking again at the photo, believe me....the cleanup will be far more damaging than the graffiti. That rock is soft and is covered in lichen and will not look the same after cleaning. Unfortunately, the graffiti just invites more graffiti, so those of who care are not left with much.

My thing is you've got people bitching that lives a lot closer than him that could easily go and clean it off. Not saying it's right for anyone to do that but if you're going to bitch that it's there then just go clean it so all this can be done.

I'm too lazy to read everything I've missed since page 10, but torconTRD posted that picture on IG and claims someone else wrote all those account names to throw them under the bus.

It's ironic that all 4 of those accounts are owned by the same people. Fargo and torcon are their vehicles, ruggedpix is their photo account, and the overland one is their overland account...
