Took about 90 minutes, had very good breakfast next door at Kountry Kafe. No problems at all, just be sure to complain about the shifting, then show them the TSB if needed.

Toyota of El Cajon (where I purchased my truck) is the dealer that said they checked my tranny but really did not do it the physical way. They lied. As I took it to Toyota of Poway and they found the tranny 3/4 quart low a week later. You may want to go somewhere other than El Cajon Toyota service.

Got the TSB done today. It was the 3rd truck they had done. Set my cruise on 75 and it's like a whole new truck. Held 6th much longer and when needed it downshifted to 5th but went back into 6th very quickly.

I would like to acknowledge First Team Toyota in Chesapeake VA. They did a great job on making repairs to my truck. They have restored my faith in the brand. I had all of the following repairs made. Some existed from day one and some just popped up recently.
1-replaced tpms as 3 of 4 were broken with no warning light present
2-replaced inside driver door rubber trim at glass that was leaving a grease smear each use
3-replaced front passenger body mount which sounded horrendous and was installed bad at factory
4-replaced speedometer cluster to eliminate random trip meter resets
5-originally topped off atf by 1 qt to attempt to resolve issues
6-then ran TSB which brought transmission back to great working condition
    7-eliminated my whining and complaining
Thanks to Neil, Matt, Anita and Nic for an exceptional job.

You are right. 4 months ago, when I bought my Tacoma from El Cajun, I told them to check the transmission fluid, the guy was like: "It is a sealed transmission, we can't check it." I told him then how do you change the transmission oil, if it is sealed? Duh! He then let the technician check it for me, as I figured out a day later they didn't physically check the fluid level. I still have all the issues with the transmission. I am going to try Poway Toyota. I know that they have a good service department. Thank you!

As much as I like Toyota trucks, I've had 6 of them, I sure as HELL wouldn't get rid of mine just to turn around and buy another Toyota truck right now...lol :frusty:

For me its Tacomas or F150's. Always had good luck with both. And Tundra does not have the new model issues like the Tacoma. Known too many people with Chevy V8 valve train issues the past few years.

Had them flash the tranny per the tsb. Noticed immediate improvements but still need to let the computer "relearn" everything. Also they checked the fluid level and it was full.

Got my tsb done today my mirage went to crap. I still have the sticker that was on the window that said 18 to 23 mpg I'm lucky to get 16. Pretty disappointed. Should have kept my 2003. Not to mention my screen keeps shutting off. They said they fixed it today. It shut off as I was driving off the lot

So i hear people should be driving the truck hard after the flash so the truck "re-learns" how the driver drives?

I'm sitting here reading thru this thread at the dealer waiting on mine now. 10k Mike service and the refresh. Service guy just came and told me they were actually doing 2 seperate flashes on the trans. 1st one took 30 min. Second is about 15? I haven't read thru the whole thread but it's the 1st I've heard of this?

Anyway I've got nothing but good things to say about Fowler Toyota in Norman Oklahoma. My service guy is a bad ass. Knows tacomas. Has a tacoma, keeps up with forums to know what's going on. So far I've been super impressed with every dealing on both the tacoma and the T4r

Hopefully this gets rid of my shift delay

After about 600 miles, DCORLB is most definitely not just a ECU reset. The constant upshifts and shift delays, the R - D delay and lurching have not returned since the update. When new those symptoms all began within the first 3 days. If you have symptoms returning, maybe the dealer just did a reset and not the real update for you. I'm now getting 20.5 or better gas mileage without even trying, when before I would have gotten 17 - 18 driving the same way. I was able to get 21.6 before by constant babying. I'd rather get 20.5 without having to baby it.

I think they need to work on the technology capabilities of the Atkins engines more. There were some things about it I actually liked. The upshifts could be good in certain situations, but in many situations it was impeding and possibly dangerous (loss of power passing/merging lanes). If they were able to produce data that could identify specific situations (ie. straight line highway cruising), then apply the desirable shift patterns only at the correct times, there may be some benefit there. I noticed that my highway mileage has gotten worse after TSB, but overall mileage has improved. I actually can't reproduce what it was doing before during highway cruising which was getting me higher MPGs. Not even in S mode. So there may be an even sweeter shift pattern possible which we'll probly never see in the Tacoma. The TSB is probly a quick generic shift pattern they had ready to go in case what happened... happened.

Hoping my gas mileage actually improves at some point. The truck only has 1k miles on it, but I've been averaging like 13-15mpg since I bought it. Obviously much better on the interstate, but still only around 19-20mpg tops there. I do remember reading that the gas mileage increases as the computer learns your driving style, but did anyone else actually start out this bad? I'm not driving like a maniac or anything here lol

I was averaging around 20 MPG in mixed driving when using D mode. That average went up to around 21.5 when I switched to S mode and manually adjusted among 4, 5, & 6 depending on conditions.

With the TSB completed, I'm waiting to see what mileage I get in D mode before experimenting again with S mode.

I 'hope' the update will allow me to use D mode exclusively - from a no longer frustrated with the lame transmission aspect rather than any MPG perspective...

The Ford/Toyota dealer here in Hutchinson, KS, was excellent! Received update last Tuesday. Wanted to wait before posting. The delay is gone, the accelerator actually accelerates immediately without delay or feeling like I have pushed it to the floor. Never really noticed any harsh shifting from first to second...occasionally would wrap up, but either way, not an issue. Cruise works so much better...immediately up shifts after reaching crest of hill. So thankful for TacomaWorld.com. I honestly didn't really like my truck a month ago. Loving it now!

Well I'm sitting in the dealer waiting for my update. I have all the issues this TSB is supposed to address. Had them check the trans fluid two months ago on a case opened with toyota and hope they did a manual check. My milage is always around 16 give or take for combined highway and city driving. Really hoping I see the results some have reported in increased performance as well as better milage and resolving the trans issues. Fingers crossed.
