In the national electric code the same wire size table is used for anything 0-2000V. I freely admit to not having experience with alternator wiring size since they clearly don't have a 100% duty cycle but to say the wire size would change from a 12V system to a 120V system is false. The wire size is based on ampacity, insulation type, ambient temperature and number of conductors in a bundle.

This is the exact wire I have and that I would be selling to you. image.jpg

Looks good man. Both you and @thefatkid have much more experience in this arena than I do. I will just have to accept that wiring for the automotive industry is sized based on different parameters than the building industry. I'll see myself out now... :pout:

Well i cant beleive it spreads from 0-1200 volts but i do beleive what you are saying and i do take it into thought. I dont want to burn your truck or mine down. But if this wire only is rated at 600v max then that tells me something has to do with volts. But look at tazers.... Tiny wires and huge volts..... I want to be safe and will listen to what people say. Im also saying that the dual batterys tested out at 1226 cca this afternoon on that 1/0 wire and i have had it for a while and its all been warm to the touch every time i have touched it

If you're interested, here's the table from the NEC. The bottom table is the derating factors based on ambient temperature. I'm not sure how hot an engine bay can get but I would assume it could be over 150F.

Looks like the only thing that soes not have is this has a higher heat rating on it. And as you can see its effecting amp capasity to the wire. I wonder what the strand type is too and what that effects. House wire is solid core And holds less. This is super fine super high count so i wonder if that helps.

Jake I would invest in one of those fire extinguisher bombs to carry in the truck just in case. I am glad you are going to test this out so the rest of us can watch and see what happens, but you have a lot into your truck NOT to be safe as well.

His stock electrical components will only draw the amperage they need. Like that have been doing since the truck rolled off the line. Alternators do not "push" amps, they only supply amps as needed.
The WINCH cables and the BATTERY/ALTERNATOR cables will need to be over-sized for the amperage that the WINCH will be drawing while it's running.

I would still bypass any fusible links that are in line with the charging system.

I could get you one of these babies, and since Tacoma's only have a single engine I don't have to train you to select the correct engine. Also could add the foam element to the Rock Therapy euro rave night.

Hey Jake, saw someone talking about adding a on board welder. Ever look into that? seems you will have the amps now to run it.
