Let me know how that works out for you. I am hopeful that my mileage will increase a little as well

Just went out to the service bay and talked to the tech. He's was checking the trans fluid, torquing the u bolts, torquing the bolts on my differentials, putting the plugs in the lower control arms and getting ready for the ECU update.

My MPG improved from 19.1 to 22.2 on average. Weather and temps and driving habits have been consistent. I would say that the trans does seem to be relearning. I had the R-D hesitation and the cruise control up shift issue. Those are gone but it seems to hunt to find the right gear now and then like it did when I first bought it. But as I stated earlier is seems to "coast" more.

Mine was roughly 17.5 in town the first 3000 miles. Then it jumped to 19+ in town. Still hanging close to that. Got 24 on a road trip to the mountains last month before TSB.

Thanks all of you who have mentioned your location. I'm in the middle of a road trip which may total 10k miles but I'm still trying to figure out where I'll hit 20k for my next service. Hutchinson KS may work out well.

I've actually heard really good things about this dealer. I wouldn't hesitate at all

I got about 14 mpg when the truck was new. Didn't see improvement until around 500 miles I think it was. And it slowly improved up to about 18. That's the non-granpa driving average. The TSB has me up to 20.5 now.

Got the update today. I personally didn't notice the P to R or cruise control issue however I always felt the truck shifted sluggish, had poor low-end torque, and slipped into gear pretty hard at times when letting off throttle and accelerating again.
As many have said before me it feels like a completely different truck. Very smooth and refined. Holds gear and up shifts at the correct time. My VIN happened to be on the TSB paperwork so dealer didn't even question it.

Thanks everyone for posting your experience and helping out.

Emporia,KS Clint Bowyer Autoplex did mine about 2 weeks ago and it's been great ever since. I drive the turnpike thru the Flint Hills with the cruise pinned @ 80 mph and got 21 mpg coming home last night. Could not be happier!

I'm happy so far. Truck shifts are a lot crisper. No r-d delay. Digital readout mpgs have gone up. But I've only put about 30 miles on it tonight. Time will tell but so far I'll take it

I don't know about the MPG (I drive in the city mostly), but the car seems much more _sure_ about its shift points. I remember verbalizing "What in the hell are you doing?!" at least a few times at the transmission.

Just got my tsb done at one toyota of oakland. For sure the the shift point is a lot better than before and see some slight improvement on mpg.

If you're in SoCal and go to Crown Toyota just tell them you want the lag from R to D corrected and they'll flash your ECU within fifteen minutes. After 500 miles today I must say the truck feels completely different like everyone else before me has said.

I have a few hundred miles on mine since the update. I usually don't drive it that hard, but yesterday I noticed the power still really doesn't kick in till about 4,000 RPM's. Was giving it a heavy foot and wouldn't really take off until then, but once it got close to 4,000, she really took off.

I just got 24.1 mpg on a 450 mile trip from GA to NC. I was considering the transmission flash, but my service advisor said it didn't apply to my engine (he said I had a 7gr) is he wrong ? Don't I have a 2gr ? I like what I have as it is and really don't trust them with it anyway.

Look at the underwood label to determine which engine if you have. Also the V6 trucks have an emblem on the tailgates. There is a TSB for both powertrains, with the 4 cylinder TSB being out a lot longer.

Thanks man. I live in La Mesa and will be buying a Tacoma. I wasn't impressed by what I heard about the other dealerships.

Should I have an "AUTHORIZED MODIFICATION" sticker under my hood AFTER having TSB performed? (I've seen other TW postings pic of sticker) I asked the Service Writer about sticker and he looked at me as if he smelled a fart.
