what's the best anti-theft devices for your taco?

I bought a brake pad lock and am thinking to do VIN etching on all windows.

Any advices?

 

I think Toyota has been etching all glass for several years now...

Factory door locks....actually locked.

 

Nothing is going to keep a theif out unless you have constant watch over your truck. They were gone the time I grabbed my gun and went outside, maybe 15 seconds after alarm went off. My windows are tinted pretty dark now.

 

Viper alarms are good, they give you constant feedback on the status of the truck. Little expensive though.

Glock 17 with 147g Speer Gold Dot HP or I can book a plane ticket for my Rhodesian Ridgeback, she's fearless. Howls like any other hound.

 

Live out in the sticks, don't cut the grass, random trip hazards in grass, have two pitbulls running free, 12 guage propped behind door...

Of course that's the best because it's what I have...

 

Something that disables the vehicle from running. Hidden. Like a fuel cut or ignition kill.

Keep the vehicle locked.

Good insurance. Have aftermarket mods? If they aren't declared with your carrier, they likely won't be covered. At all.

Leave nothing in the vehicle that is in sight to be a temptation of easy pickins.

Leave nothing in the vehicle of sentimental or irreplaceable value.

Install a fake flashing LED on the dash that looks like an alarm.

Regardless of what you do, if a pro wants it, it's gone. Stuff inside, smash and grab is easy peasy. All you are doing is lowering incentive for kids and by adding deterrent and removing low hanging fruit.

I use a steering wheel lock, in addition to other security layers.

 

pick favorite/most badass looking gun mfr sticker and put it on the back. still, if they want to get in, they will. dealer i worked at lost 8 sets of aftermarket rims in a night a couple years ago... all with wheel locks installed and viper alarm systems.

 

That's backfired on a few folks. Vehicles broken into because crackheads think there's a gun inside.

 

Hard to stop smash and dash.

 

I don't worry about it. If someone steals it I hope they set it on fire when they ditch it so I can get a new Inferno TRD Sport, Access Cab, 2WD.

this is exactly what i did. i bought a small flashing red LED light and wired it to a SPDT Bosch type relay with the ignition tripping the relay. without ignition engaged, the red led light is flashing. as soon as i turn on ignition, flashing stops and light is out. i do have very dark tint on my windows, however the flashing led light is still clearly visible. i have it mounted on the top of my driver's side door panel, towards the rear. total investment: $8. for most vehicles on the market, a small flashing red light is typically an indicator of a security system and the light itself becomes a deterrent. in no way is this a security system, but it sure looks like one....

I keep it parked in my garage. Neighbour parks his vehicles on his driveway. He has been broken into. I haven't.

 

I bought a 3rd gen so nobody would want to steal it
