    I guess. I'd rather be a moose magnet :(

I have a footprint for my ground tent but I'm a car camper so weight isn't a factor for me.

I don't use a footprint. Sometimes I'll just use the rainfly for my tent and sleep on a ground cloth, but never anything under my tent.

I always use a footprint. When I was guiding it was a necessary thing because if extended the life of my tent (that was my home half of the year). I went through the bottom of my first tent without the footprint in about 4 months of guiding. A lot cheaper to replace a 30 dollar footprint than a whole tent body. Weight of a footprint isn't a deal breaker.. If it is, you're doing some crazy long distance shit and shouldn't be carrying a tent anyway lol

If you're car camping just pick up a cheap Walmart tarp as a fly and cut it to size. Also keeps ground moisture from coming in through the floor of your tent.

    ^^ good points here

Also if you have a Big Agnes you can do the "Fast-Fly" set up with just the fly and footprint with no tent body.

I used Tyvek for a ground sheet. Cheap. Light. And easily replaced.

Use the foot print or the tyvek option @Cuffs mentioned. It makes it a little softer crawling in and out of your tent and prevents pinholes. Everything will seem fine until you are in a rainstorm and the water pools beneath your tent and seeps in thru those those tiny holes....plus it extends the life of the tent significantly

I am doing a SW Colorado/Utah/Far North Arizona road trip in a few weeks. Hitting up Mesa Verde NP, Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, and Zion NP. I will also be checking out Moab a bit and will be staying there for a few nights in a BLM campground. I'll also drive through Bryce Canyon NP and Capitol Reef NP but probably won't have time to stop at them. I plan to also check out Monument Valley, the Moki Dugway, either Antelope or Waterholes Canyon, and maybe a few other spots. Hell's Backbone road between Boulder and Escalante is something I would like to drive as well. Anyone ever done that?

Yep. Kelty Noah's Tarp 9 and the Kelty Tarp Poles.

They are the Kelty ones. These things are STOUT. They will also extend up to 99" if needed.

Here's a few more photos. It's a little saggy in the middle but when I'm at the site I'll have much more area to make it how I want.
