Glad I bought a 4x4

We had a light dusting of snow here last night in GA but the main thing is we have a bunch of Ice on the roads. I live about 40 miles north of Atlanta in north cherokee county and drive to alpharetta down a lot of back roads throught lots of horse farms. I'm glad I bought a 4x4 tacoma. All the main roads are pretty clear and ice free but many of the backroads I take are covered in ice. I tried driving in 2wd but the tail end was getting very squirelly due to the curvy roads. I had to put it in 4wd to keep it straight especially climbing some of the steep hills.

I had to get out and help push a womans brand new BMW 5 series so she could get over a small hill. I ended up having to drive through a ditch to go around about 5 idiots who were just sitting there watching her and blocking the road so I could help her. Fortunately myself and another gentelman who was at the head of the pack of cars helped her out.

ABS kicked in on me once when i was slowing down to make a turn...I was only doing about 5mph and using the engine to slow down in 1st gear brakes locked up and I had to pull off onto the shoulder for traction to make the turn.

The ditches are full of cars up here lol.

In those ice storms, I find it better sometimes to drive with 2 wheels on the gravel for added traction.

 

Good for you helping that lady, I try and help people as much as I can... You never know when you'll need help... If that was my mom or sister I would hope someone would help them as well instead if sitting in there car...

In WI- I would try to drive off road a little bit to gain said traction. In GA- I would NOT go out. I know I can drive on snow- did it for 8 years or so.
All the other jackasses down here that saw snow one time when they were 10 or whatever and have NO clue how to drive...They'll get you killed or damage your rig.

 

got that right man...it's not me i'm worried about...it's the other idiots down here...they drive bad enough when the roads are dry lol

 

Mine in 2wd hardly breaks out at all on the ice. As soon as the rear wheels start spinning and the rear end breaks out even just a little the VSC kicks in along with what seems like the other dozen traction control systems on mine. Have to turn them all off to have any fun.
