The bearings that the wheel flange came off of were really bad and it made metal to metal contact.

turns out he was missing the internal oil seal as well :p...that surely aided the quick demise of the bearings....the CV dust seal was doing all the work and it wasn't up to the task. we are going to use a different flange for the new bearing too. Hoping to be done with it this time around.

so..the pics above were from my buddies original wheel beraing and flange set, with the galled surface.
The upcoming pics are of the wheel bearing assembly that comes from Bamatoy.

Did this last year, this one coming off is a Bamatoy repacement.

Oh and btw, these two trucks were in the hood again today...

This is the seal he has been missing all all along and what fucked up two sets of bearings.

Ok, so earlier i showed a pic of a flange that had a galled surface. So we decided to take off the existing bearing and hoped the flange was in good shape to use with the new bearing and seals. This is the Bamatoy bearing. Which went bad, but there is more to the story..

    and the outer bearing cage.

Do you see anything unusual here?
    Did not happen during removal.

Side note, after we installed the Bamatoy unit, he complained of a vibration from that moment in time until today. Now the vibe is gone.

New inner seal on the new bearing.

New flange with nice smooth surface.

    All pressed together.

and back on the truck. All his complaints have gone away.
And a missing seal has been replaced, so that shoukld be the end of it for a few years I hope.

Me too. Jacked it up and have play in the bearing. Going to do both sides when I put on my lift.

    So what are you saying?
Did you bugger it up when you installed it?
    Or did Bamatoy hose him?

pretty sure it came damaged from Bamatoy because that portion was hidden behind the inner seal. And this was the vibration he felt from the day he replaced it.
However, it's a moot point as he was also missing the outer seal, and has been for the last two bearing jobs we have done in the last 20,000 miles...so fuck it. we both learned that it's actually easy to replace the 2nd gen front wheel bearings and now that he has the outer seal figured out, it should be less frequent.
