Weird Upcharge on Window Sticker??

So while getting my oil changed today at the dealer, I was looking at few Tacomas they had on the lot. On one of them, it had the regular sticker price at 41k. On the side of it though, there was another sticker that said 2000 Upcharge for fair market value. What is that? Are these trucks selling for more than msrp?

 

More people want them, more they can charge. There are folks out there, and on here, who have to have the newest thing no matter what it costs.

Yeah, it was a limited 4x4. It had paint sealant and nitro filled tires and that 2000 Upcharge. Total was 44.5k.

 

Upcharge = pure additional dealer profit.

Never have paid msrp or above. Don't plan to in the future. I will admit I have not purchased a 3gen. The way prices are going I am not sure I will. imo, the Tacoma is over priced for what Toyota is offering. While the Tacoma has been reliable in the past. It is too early to tell for the 3gen.

 

That's what I paid Canadian dollars. 30% exchange. Send them up here, I'll give them a really good deal.

 

When they first came out, there were dealers in SoCal asking 5k over MSRP for "market adjustment". My local dealer was asking $2k over MSRP and claimed people were paying it. You can do much better if you get out of Southern California. I paid $500 over invoice by getting mine in Salinas. A few other Northern California dealers were willing to take below MSRP. If you decide to buy one, there are threads about which dealer has the best deals.

 

Any time you see a "fair market value" add on, turn away and never go back to that dealer. Just shows they are pure slimeballs.

 

Toyota has done this for years, supply and demand....and yes if you want the truck you'll pay for it....

Its not toyota at all. Its that particular dealer. Dealer pay the same for the vehicle from toyota regardless.

 

Nothing new, dealers were upcharging the 2nd gen when it first rolled out and people said the same thing about the brand new truck no longer being built in Japan.

OR 4x4 Dbl cab, LB, PT/JBL , TP, oval steps, mudguards, floor liners/door sills

MSRP 40,600.00 which includes dealer processing fee

Dealer discount 3725.00

No trade

OTD. 40,212.00. Includes taxes

Did I do ok.

I did some pricing at other dealerships for 2016 with the same configuration and the OTD cost were 1500 to 2200 higher

 

2016 Limiteds are listed for 2-3k below MSRP all over Texas.

Yeah, nitrogen filled tires... What a joke! They actually charge $40 more for this nonsense.

 

I have heard this at several dealers...just what is the supposed advantage to nitrogen filled tires?..and how would you even know the are filled with nitrogen

 

Supposed to be less temperamental to temperature changes. Usually they put green valve caps on.

Still a waste of money
