I see bearings sold separate are they replaceable at home or are they press fit? I have some movement top to bottom and the ball joints are new. Best guess from what I am seeing is the wheel bearings. It has around 150,000 on it. It came from Iowa and has road cancer but soon will have a flat bead.

I believe they need to be pressed out. With one hell of a press.

They are an absolute bitch to replace. You will most likely need new hubs too. Take it to the dealer, not a random mechanic, and get them done right. This is one area it doesn't pay to cut corners. I had to do mine twice for that very reason.

There are a couple of bronze bushings that will need replaced as well, they will only come with the new hub assembly. There is the bearings for the CV stub as well that need addressed. Lot's going on in there.

do you have manual locking front hubs?

Edit: doesn't matter, there is nobody selling ready to bolt in 1st gen bearings. They have to be pressed in and out. :) On the bright side, the new ones if done correctly, new seals and all that, will last another 100,000 miles.

I found the one doing them on a search. Hope he is still doing them as looks that he is using all top of the line part and has the right equipment and knowledge.
