Re-gear?

    I've geared a lot of jeeps in my day but never a Toyota.
    I am thinking 4.56s or 4.88. 513's made my Jeeps run perfect the way it should've from the factory . I am thinking that this is the problem with the transmission from the get-go. What is a general cost for someone to do the work on a Toyota?

    Most people only re-gear when getting larger tires. On the second gen, I read that 4.56 for manual and 4.88 were the gears of choice, but that's while running 35s. I don't think anyone will recommend re-gearing a stock truck, but if you did the lowest I'd go is 4.10. cost is expensive too if you're going to pay someone else to do it. Thousands of dollars

    I'm running 33.5 inch tires and live in high altitude. In overdrive or six gear I'm running 1500 1600 rpm's.
    Re-gearing on a jeep generally would cost 15 to 1700 bucks. Call my local shop tomorrow.

    I bet after you regeared you were singing hallelujah! I always did!

    Yeah the other guy said thousands of dollars LOL. I had a TJ and re-geared it to 4.56 running 33x12.50 and it was 1300 back in 2011

    How would you reprogram the trans to account for the difference in speed?

    Well when you re-gear the rear, you have to re-gear the front if you want to do it properly. In your case since you're running bigger tires, then re-gearing may be in your best interest.

    You guys keep referencing the cost to re-gear jeeps. Have you forgotten we're driving tacomas?

    A jeep has a solid front axle. So about $750 each axle would be about right. I have no idea how much a regear would be up front for a Tacoma.. What does it have up front?? Not an axle..

    A diff is a diff. Take apart the ifs clamshell and change the ring and pinion
