HG is package specific for access cab. Double cabs get HH or FP, both have sunroof. Same as 2016.

I test drove one that had the JBL system. Sounded nice and was decent. I ended up with a non JBL and am happy for now. However I do have a JL Audio W6 8" laying around and and amp ill be installing when I get the gumption to build the box. The door speakers wont sound as good but they will do until I upgrade. I have a tendency to replace all my audio stuff any way.

I have the Non-JBL and can say... without a doubt... I will be upgrading in time as it is too tame for my taste. I say this not having heard the JBL version. It will be up to you OP. I have for years always added amplification and aftermarket speakers to all of my cars even my bimmers that came with pretty good Harmon Kardon systems.

With. Worth it not to have to pay someone to rip up a brand new truck to run wires etc

Do you need to know, or care?

Hmmm. Most upgrades don't need to run many wires. Replacing stock speakers is a plain swap. Head units usually have a cable wiring harness. Amplifiers can be patched in.

I agree that you do need to do significant modifications sometimes but that will depend on how extensive the modification is.

So TL : DR I agree and disagree both.

My truck is without and I am loving it just fine.

Sound is of course a very personal thing, but for me the standard system sounds amazing. Completely satisfies my thirst for bass and sound, but if you have to have the best and have the extra boost....why not? :)

I for one actually enjoy the basic interface of the non JBL... HD 7 Inch touch screen interface sound system. I just want a touch more power. Social Distortion at the stoplight at 40 on the volume really doesn't cut it.

I vote for waiting for the JBL equipped truck. I tried both and the standard system is much better than the standard system on the 2nd gens so it would have been totally livable. However the 3rd gen JBL is noticeably better and I like it a lot.

Downside: The sub takes up a significant amount of behind the seat storage room.

Assumption: You do not plan to install aftermarket upgrades (If you did, I would get the standard system)

JBL - it sounds pretty good.

Waiting a few more weeks is a no-brainer. I'd get that dealer to give you a bit more off since THEY screwed up.

I had the 2015 limited 4Runner with the JBL sound. And the FJ with the subwoofer before that. I got an Access Cab and really miss the JBL ( And the leather ,and the floor mat hold down on the passenger side ) .They have a few plug and play systems being built but they are not out yet. I will probably spend 1500 on the REF450Q when it comes out.
But then from past experience it will probably get stollen .

Another point I forgot: Stock head units are less of a target for thieves.* So if the JBL is good enough, it's better than the equivalent aftermarket system when it comes to lifetime cost. Also, some settings get changed via the head unit, so I'm not sure how that would happen if you did an upgrade. Of course a speaker/amp only change would level the comparison.

*Completely based on my lifetime of hearsay and cognitive biases. No actual scientific data was used or harmed in the making of this statement.

What all is included in the JBL upgrade? Is it just a sub woofer or are the doors speakers and tweeters different from the standard speakers too?

I believe all the speakers are upgraded and amplified in addition to the sub woofer. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty confident it's more than just an amplified sub.

The basic system sounds pretty decent.

I'm probably not even going to upgrade it.
