Hello, TW. I am looking to buy a new mid-size truck and am trying to decide between the Tacoma and the Ridgeline and was hoping you guys could help me with some advice and council.

The truck will be a daily driver. I prefer a mid-size truck for driving in town, which will be the majority of driving I do in the truck. I need a 4 door for those times when I take clients to lunch. I occasionally (once or twice a year) tow a motorcycle trailer loaded with two motorcycles for a total weight of about 2000 lbs and don't anticipate that changing in the future. I am not planning on going off-pavement so 4 wheel drive is unnecessary.

I was leaning heavily toward the 3rd gen Tacoma until Honda released the Ridgeline. I don't think the Ridgeline is ugly but I definitely prefer the looks of the Tacoma.

Aside from looks, can you guys point out the relative benefits of the Tacoma over the Ridgeline for my intended use?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

All I can say is the Ridgeline isn't a truck. It's a Honda Odyssey with the back cut off.

Get a 2wd 2015. Double cab sport. That looks good and will fit your needs.

Id personally look into a canyon or Colorado. Imo canyon looks better.

That's just me. Ridgelines are horrifying.

They are both at the high end of the mid size truck as far as price. I think they both look good except the very car like front on the Honda. If you need a truck to use as a truck get a Tacoma. If you need a truck for the occasional trip to Lowe's and to move larger stuff compare prices and features and pick what YOU like! I admit I like a lot of the things the Honda has!

Oh yea good luck with the guys here....this is one of the most passionate forums on the Web...don't take the next few posts to heart!

    Ridgeline for you.........

It's a modern El Camino, just made from a van instead of a station wagon.

But with what you described of your uses, it will be quite competent.

Not sure why you need any truck bed at all (you don't say). Maybe a 'whole' mini van might work even better. Siennas are awesome, and with the seats out hold piles of stuff, while keeping it much more secure than a truck bed.

I'm not really considering the GM trucks mostly because I'm concerned they won't prove to be as reliable as the Tacoma or Ridgeline.

Just seen the Canadian Ridgeline commercial and they show everything except for the front of the truck. I'm not a big fan of the front of the 3gen tacoma but it's a hell of alot nicer then the honda

    Buy a tacoma

Thanks for the advice. I don't mean to be dense but what does "if you need a truck to use as a truck" mean? What does the truck part of the Tacoma do that the Ridgeline doesn't do, especially considering my intended use? What am I missing?

The Ridgeline will drive much better on the street because it's not making a compromise for off-road driving. It'll probably get better mpg as well and the interior is nicer especially for passengers. The reviews for the Ridgeline have been pretty good as well. It seems a better fit for you. The small penis crowd will be singing a chorus about how the Honda isn't a real truck but who cares what it is if it does what you want better.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have a small SUV now and plan on keeping it and letting my son drive it, so it will be available if I want to drive it. The truck will be in addition to the SUV.

    Just noted your screen name.

Not sure I'd use that if you settle on the Ridgeline. :D
