Kindle reader

Anyone have one? I'm looking at buying one, the Kindle DX. I know there are other e-readers being launched soon but this one seems to have the most support. Interested to hear others views and real world experience's.

 

I got one for Christmas, mostly to get a subscription to the Washington Post when I'm at school down south. Free delivery daily

 

Is it as easy on your eyes as they advertise?

 

While I've only ever read about 10 articles in a sitting, I've never had any fatigue in my eyes. Then again I'm young and computers don't bother me much either

 

I just got the Kindle for Xmas. I think it is awesome. Lots of cool features, download books without a computer, you can adjust the text size, very easy on the eyes. So far I think its great.

 

I've never heard of that one. But I'll look at it too.

That is why I'm looking at an e-reader. So many books are now in digital format. Plus the ability to take them with you on a single device. It'd be nice to not have to pack 3 books when I hop on a plane.
How long does the battery last??

 

I've gone a over a couple of days without needing to charge the battery, with the kindle showing that the battery was half way charged. I haven't ran it all the way down yet. This was reading everyday.

 

Just looked at the nook at Barnes & Noble this weekend.......they said I'd be lucky to get one before summer they are so backordered. That just sucks!!!

 

I got a Amazon Kindle for Xmas too and love it! The e-paper is easy on the eyes. The DX is the larger Kindle. I have the standard one and the screen size has a good bit more area than most paperbacks I've read. I think the larger DX would be a cumbersome.

The new kindles use 3G connectivity and they also offer limited web access at no charge. They mainly do text-based sites like CNN.com.

When choosing e-books I've found that the prices vary greatly between print and e-book versions. Some e-books are a mere $0.20 cheaper than their printed versions, while others are $5-$10 cheaper electronically. The Kindle also lets you download samples of any book for free.

 

One more thing...if you get a Kindle, DO NOT get the Amazon branded cover, or any other cover that uses the small hooks that click into the left side of the Kindle. There are hundreds of people that have reported hairline cracks in the white plastic Kindle face caused by these hooks. Amazon has declined to cover this under warranty even though they brand the cover. There is a class-action lawsuit against Amazon for this in process.

Just check a few pages of these customer reviews and you'll start seeing a lot of people complaining about this.

I got my wife one for Christmas and she reads like crazy, and she has not had to charge it yet. She really likes it, and bought a little LED reading light for it that helps a lot in low light situations.

 

Thanks for the input guys. I thought the DX would be better because of the larger screen. Honestly I've yet to see one in person, so that is why I am interested in the larger screens. I like to read a lot so this seems like the way to go.
