my OEM lasted just about 6+ years (7 max). Walker lasted just shy of that at 5+ years. I'll save the $250 for goodies

Im gonna be honest. I didn't realize replacing the exhaust was so common. My truck lived in Washington state for 6 years and have never replaced the exhaust.

I hear that. There is no such thing as a 4 cylinder with "sound". A V-8, yes. A V-12. Yes. However, I do understand the younger generation and if he wants sound then give him advice for how to get it out of a 4 cyl. I don't have any. The 2.7 is as good as it gets performance wise and mpg wise as it will ever get unless you supercharge it. As far as sound I have read that there are exhaust systems that do sound "good". I just don't remember the name of the company.

Look at Magnaflow. I remember some on here liking the sound of those. I had some but they were on a big V-8 and they sounded REAL nice. Not loud at all and not even loud out on the interstate. They were just "nice" and "throaty" all the way around. No drone at high speeds. I'll be looking at Magnaflows the day my muffler takes a crap on my 2.7. Not really for the sound but just because they make good stuff and will probably cost half of what a stock muffler cost. I'll make that decision when the time comes. Me? I'd rather stick with stock.

Try searching YouTube for different sounds also @tooter did a dyno test and the flow mast delta 50 muffler gives you around 1 mpg more. He dunk tested it against stock and a magnaflow. He put the link and stats in my first post on here. It's called best bang for your buck 4cylinder mods. I think it's on page 2

Mine has 150,000 on it and the exhaust is fine. However, it was garaged in Kalifornia for the first ten years of it's life. I now have it in Wyoming and the sandblasting alone all winter long will probably wear it out. So far so good but I'm already planing for a new exhaust in the future. It all depends on where you live and how far you drive everyday. I intentionally live 13 miles from work because a warmed up engine and oil at operating temp for at least 20 minutes a day stops the problems with condensation in the oil and the same for an exhaust system. Short tripping ruins more than a few things on an engine. It gets below zero for weeks where I live. In someplace like Southern Kalifornia it's not a big deal.

Yes, it does and it also depends on whether or not you burn all the condensation out of the exhaust regularly. I intentionally live 13 miles from work with that being a big reason. My oil and exhaust get fully heated up every day. Short tripping will rust out an exhaust fairly quick. Especially if it gets real cold where you live like it does where I live.

I'm 65 miles from work, hope mine last long. Although I see the putter shell rusting off my muffler.

I took off my perfectly functional OEM cat back exhaust system after 8 years of use and install a Magnaflow SS cat back because I wanted something that sounded cooler. Unfortunately, it doesn't sound "cooler". 4s & 6s will not sound like a 8.

Yeah salt can affect it. More importantly do you get the exhaust hot enough to burn off the condensation that collects in there? If you do a lot of short trips the rusting through can easily happen. Seems the most important thing you can do, if you do lots of short trips, is one 15-20 minute drive at highway speed at least every other day. This will help the exhaust by burning off condensation as well as the engine, it helps lessen the carbon build up on the pistons and in between the piston rings.... Or so I've been told.

Despite all the marketing on intake and exhaust systems, there is rarely, if any, benefit trying to improve on the systems as designed. I guess you might see an improvement with headers, but not enough for me to throw money at that. Intake systems, yeah I don't buy the hype, based on personal experience. Air filters, even less.

Knew going in what I wanted -- a better sounding exhaust system. Was not looking for power. The 3.4 is a dog. Would take FI to make a difference.

I've done a fair amount of modifying engines for sound and power. Some respond...some don't.

I have that system on mine. Been on for 4 years now. Tip still looks fairly good, but piping has exterior surface rust all over. I expected the SS to stay "rust-free" looking, but it hasn't. No big deal. Still feels solid. Assume it'll last another 5 or more years...

Be aware that it does not follow the exact path as the OEM (at least for my 04, DC, V6, 4x4). Runs closer to my air bags than the OEM pipe did. Also exits through the leaf pack, instead of under it.
