Possible engine failure help

I had a mass airflow sensor go on a geo prism and it got progressively worse so that the car barely rolled.

 

What is this supposed to do?

 

Nothing. Its the same as pulling the battery clamp to clear codes.

 

Actually, switching the two relays tests to see if the AF heater (o2 sensor heater) is the reason for the o2 sensor heater being out of specs. If switching the relay causes the o2 heaters to start working, then there is no need to buy new sensors to fix that fault when it is just the relay.

But what if the fog light relay is busted lol just kidding.

 

Test it by turning in your fog lights. Even non-mechanics can figure that one out.

 

You don't have much of a sense of humor do you. I did it and nothing changed in that department but after doing the compression test and putting everything back, I took it out for a test drive and it is back to normal.
Don't ask, idk.
Something must have come loose before and I inadvertently fix it while testing.

I was being a smart ass.
Did you leave the relays after switching them, or did you put them back in their original spots? P0031 and P0051 are for the heater circuit for the upstream o2 sensors. If both have the same fault, look at the system and not the component, in other words they aren't getting power to the heaters.
Back to normal, does that mean running well with no CEL, or running as it was before with a CEL?

But yeah. If you switched the relays and left them, check your fogs o make sure they still work.

Your compression seems a bit high. 145-189 with a 15psi max range between cylinders (if I remember right) is the range it should be in. That points to a restriction in the exhaust.

 

I'm sorry but I'm a red seal heavy duty mechanic and if you have had schooling and 9 years of experience you should know why he's telling you to switch relays. I'm really not trying to rain on your parade but it's really questionable if your a tech

I know you switch to find out if one is bad, the reason I asked is because I wasn't sure if it did something more specific.
I am not a tech, I work on cars out of my garage.
I was buying and selling busted up vehicles and getting them back on the road and helped neighbors with repairs so they didn't get screwed by some asshole mechanic.

Next time if you don't have something useful to say....dont

 

It wasn't that because when that happens you will usually have a few dash lights on and you norm can't go over 1-2k rpm.
