but not 3k better lol. if you afraid to mess with your system then it might be a good idea to go with it, but you can build a much better system for less then that.

last time i checked it required the tech package which adds 3k to the sticker price. I am trying to remember what the sticker said at the dealer, but on toyotas site it also shows 3k

I have the jbl in my tundra currently. It sounds decent at best. Has taken everything NOT to upgrade speakers

Yes I am a "sound snob". Quality of, not volume

I'll have replacement speakers ordered the same day I get a delivery date for the Tacoma

The P/T package with JBL cost $3,035 and the P/T package without JBL cost $2,330.

My opinion is this: if you ever plan to upgrade the system, do not get the JBL, as its much more complicated to change out. If you don't want to have to worry with the system then get the JBL, it sounds absolutely fantastic for factory system as long as you tune it correctly, and keep it within a reasonable volume for the tune (i.e. the lower the EQ, the higher the volume...the higher the EQ, the lower the volume)...personally I find this set up to be near perfect for the wide variety I listen to:

    Bal:0
    fade: R2
    Treble: +2/3
    Mid: +1/2
    Bass: +0/1/2
    vol: ~30-35, not over 40

Same boat here. I wanted jbl so that I had a decent system until I was able to replace it, but I didn't want to wait so I got the non jbl which is fine 'cause I will be upgrading/replacing it with aftermarket stuff

I have owned many new vehicles and have gotten many upgraded audio systems they all sucked on the sound even my 2013 rubicon had a 7 speaker system with a alpine amp and sub sounded like garbage. However imo the JBL system in the 2016 actually sounds really good. So much so that I will not replace it. That is a first for me. The 2015 tacoma i had was a upgraded premium sound system and it sucked sweaty ass. Upgraded systems in my audi and vw's also sucked donkey balls . I am a serious music audiophile and have great bass and good stereo separation. I have a insane audio with focal 350 dollar speakers in my rubi now with a jl audio sub and the toyota sounds better when it comes to full sound the rubi does have better highs but that was after throwing over 2k at it. still the jbl system to me is worth it.

JBL systems from vehicle to vehicle and year to year sound a bit different and are set up differently. Plus different acoustics from one vehicle to the other. Maybe better in tacoma maybe about the same...could be worse.

Get without JBL and install the OEM Audio + Reference 450Q system. Well worth the money IMO

Family member has a '13 with the JBL system and it doesn't even compare to the OEM +

I ended up waiting on the truck with JBL. I hate having to wait 3 more weeks. Thanks for everyone's feedback.

You guys sure the JBL system is available on the 2017 Off-road (not the 2016)?
I tried to build a 2017 Off-road on the toyota.com site and JBL was not an option on the Off-road, just the Limited.
Edit: I see the problem here. I was trying to build the truck with a manual transmission. The JBL isn't available with a manual. Wtf!

Since I was wondering the same thing I checked this JBL site and it does confirm all 7 speakers are powered by the amp. http://www.jbl.com/toyota-tacoma-us.html

I would wait for JBL, I listened to both and the JBL is definitely better. With the new radios and how the entire car is feed through them its hard to add a true aftermarket stereo without a lot of modification. This is a clean install and sounds good if you know how to tune the system.
