They could have accounted with software updates the transmission to keep the fuel economy about the same

That's not even a Customer Facing Document. Someone got an early peek at a source book, and you're trying to rally a lynch mob. My guess is that they changed a code on the rear end. Time will tell.

Well ya, if they made that big of a mistake in design or communication with specs, is a pretty big deal...

I believe the power lock is a port added non factory option.

If the 3.9 is a problem child and the 4.3 becomes standard across all configs, it might be worth it.

So, why do I want the 4.3 over the 3.9? Lower gearing for better get up and go?

There is no way in hell they changed the gear ratio one year into a next gen. It just doesn't happen. My mind will be blown if this can be confirmed...

Based on the source book and the different codes between 2016 and 2017 on the door plate, looks like it, read a bit back if you haven't. I wouldn't put it past Toyota of today, they are all over the place it seems with the new truck. An added power sliding window option would have made guys flip in the 2nd gen era, that's a big update in one year for Toyota of the past, let alone a gear change.

We just confirmed it. 2017 door sticker, axle code changed and someone confirmed it with a spreadsheet that has the axle codes.

2016 autos officially screwed hard. Bet that's going to eat into the resale quite a bit too.

Anybody here have a 2016 manual with the 4.3 gear ratio? Mine is parked out in a parking lot far away but I can post my axle code when I get to it.

I makes the resale of my 2016 manual with 4.3 go through the roof if they changed them to 3.9 for 2017!!!! The 2016 manuals may have just become the rarest 3rd gen ever....

You are a bit ignorant there, this is hardly a complaint about a door seal, or something minor, this is a gear change one year in, that's a big deal.

The person who gets hold of a 2017 MT and can pull some build codes off of it will be champion of the forum.
