I lived in Dupont for 5 years or so and loved it there. My commute onto base in the morning took like 10 minutes. It's Pleasantville. Everyone (like 80-90% I think?) is a veteran, and most are still serving. Everyone wakes up and goes to work at the same time, everyone gets home at the same time. There are miles of biking/walking trails, multiple parks, decent restaurants, etc. Crime, almost literally, doesn't exist. I didn't want to leave, but my wife got a job in Seattle and after just a few weeks the commute was too much for her.

Puyallup is a place I'd avoid living, honestly. Like Renton (where I live now) there are some nice areas, but they're typically pockets surrounded by crappy areas. If Mt. Rainier ever decides to blow, you're toast =).

Lacey is growing rapidly and has some nice areas where we looked at living.

Yelm is the same way, but a bit more rural. I had some friends that lived out there and they really enjoyed it. You can get a lot more house out there, for less money.

Graham (@busmup808 can confirm or deny) is a bit of a trek to base, but you can get a LOT of house for your money out there.

If I were to work on base again I'd first look at Dupont, then Lacey, then Yelm. If you want a big yard and a fewer neighbors, Yelm is the place to be.

In my opinion, unless you're working the ranges out on East Gate Rd., the commute from the west is far superior.

One major perk to buying around a base is that you'll almost ALWAYS have a renter. Something to consider.

Yes where I live in Graham is nice and you can have alot more land for less. I live 30 min away by entering east gate to go to the commissary/exchange. We go off post for the doctor. There is a military doctors office 10 from our house. Only for the military personnel. I even had my 7th child born here in WA @ Madigan. The drive is a little ways to wheel with the boys, but I'm 2.5 hrs away from Canada and Oregon. That's the good thing being in the middle of I-5

Do you want to buy some parts and make a trip down to my house? It'll take us some time but I'm sure we can figure it out.

*Edit: I think the only tools I am lacking for the job are the special strap-crimp pliers, which we could pick up for not too much. Maybe $20?

Depending on your budget, check with CVJ axles in Denver. I got the extended silicone boots and have yet to tear one (had them on my stock length axles too). Higher quality than OEM. Up to you though

Brian makes a very good suggestion. I have heard great reviews on the axles from CVJ and you can specify which boots they install for you. They use OEM and rebuild them for you; maybe there are other options besides OEM too, I don't know.

Brian, what's your opinion of the extended silicone boots compared to the stock ones? How many miles do you have on them? Is it pretty clear that the extra length keeps the ribs from rubbing, with a lifted truck?

I love my extended silicone ones. On my stock length axles I ran them for probably 16k miles and never tore a boot. The first time after I put my kings on and went wheeling I tore a stock boot.
I even sent my LT extended axles to CVJ so I could get those extended boots. They do not sell the extended silicone boots separately.
The extended silicone boots like I have are $30 more I believe per axle

Thanks. I think I saw some extended silicone boots for the factory axles from someone, maybe a year ago. Have you looked for, or found any other boot options out there?

I haven't. When I tore that boot I was told to check out CVJ. Really good service and quick

Another rep for CVJ. Very happy with the service. Running their axles on both sides now, with the silicone inners (the ones that always tear on our trucks) and neoprene outers. No long term experience tho. This is the first season with them on.
