This is comical. There are no grounds for a lawsuit, and that is petty if some of you are actually thinking of that. They have every right to change ratios, options, styling, ect anytime they want and they don't need to send out a massive heads up 6 months prior. 4.3 to 3.9 isn't going to make a massive difference, it will make some and help the low end a little more at the expense of mpg and highway engine noise, a trade off that they other half aren't happy to give up I bet. People sure are feeling entitled these days. When you buy something and a few weeks later it goes on sale, do you go cry and whine then too demanding the lower price? Wow, this is hilarious; I am enjoying this. You would have thought they took out the V6 and threw in a V8 with better mpg for a few of you that are throwing a fit.

To those saying a big resale hit  get real...

    I know. Sorry.

At any rate, I really do hope the 2017 does well and restores faith in the brand.

First off, that gear ratio IS a BIG deal. If you do not understand that why are you commenting about it? Second, if you were following the thread, you would know that it was a joke about a lawsuit. o_O
Third, while it is totally up to Toyota to change what it likes, they never did that with the outgoing generation and not such a huge change as gear ratio.:boink:

@smitty99 Do you recall how the steering wheel and gas pedal felt when you were accelerating (either hwy or around town)?

I'm wondering if they changed the engine mounts or exhaust components to eliminate the vibration/buzzing feeling alot of us are having when driving in the 1500-2500 rpm range. Thanks brotha.

Hey, I think the gear change is a GOOD thing. Toyota is basically admitting they dropped the ball with the gen 3. They probably read these forums, saw bad press reviews and did customer surveys to see something needed changed. I will be honest, the first time I tested a 16 Tacoma automatic I thought something was wrong. I thought driving something with that little low-end torque could be a safety hazard when pulling out into traffic with approaching cars.
I did test drive a 16 that was built in July of this year and it felt much better than the other 16's I drove. I still want a gen 3 Tacoma and I am really glad Toyota is trying to mitigate the lousy gen 3 rollout.

Pop-n-lock tailgate. New radio knobs. Rear step.

Good question. The regear will help the 2017s stay in that sweet spot too.
