Yes, the sale manager at Riverview Toyota here in AZ checked the official source book and confirmed 4.31s for the 2017 Autos. Thank god I held out

I didn't. I think I'm so used to the vibes I didn't think to look for it. I didn't notice any major difference though

I didn't ask, but I would assume that the information we have read about the 3.91s is also correct. But I will confirm with him

I will be glad when there are a lot of 2017's on the road so we can smack talk them. My 2016 could use the rest.

Well that shows no one should take your advice because you just proved you don't know what your talking about. If i knew how to post a pic on here I would do it if you promise to ban yourself for a week.

Gotcha. So to clarify, there was none or there was still vibration present (just you're so used to it that it's become "normal")?

I was focusing more on whether it howled. It could have vibrated and I didn't pay attention to notice it. I wasn't trying to look for that attribute. I was paying attention to driveline noise and paying attention to trans performance/power shifting etc. Literally even the LCAs were unplugged. So I think it's unlikely they made any change to address vibes

Appreciate the feedback. Yeah, I was hoping they would update it. I'm sure more of these reviews will come out as the '17's start getting bought up. For those of you who are considering buying a 2017 make surrrrrrrre you test drive thoroughly. Many of us have the howling differential and vibrating steering wheels/gas pedals on acceleration and I can tell you right now, we're not complaining or making this stuff up for leisure.

I'll be floored if this ratio swap turns out to be legit. Here are the facts:
-The Taco was one of the fastest-selling vehicles for the '16 model year
-Toyota never changes anything until they suffer several years of sales declines (their bread and butter compact sedan STILL offers that 4AT from the Reagan administration)
-It took them a whole year to come out with a TSB to fix a fundamental aspect of transmission operation (upshifting after ascending a hill)-by most accounts this is all the 3rd gen AT needed to drive properly
-The 3rd gen Taco is already behind the GM twins in fuel economy, and a shorter rear will crap on the EPA fuel economy even more (the V6 MT with 4.3 gears gets 17/20). CAFE is even more important to Toyota now that the new Prius is a sales flop

I'm still betting on typo. The domestic fullsize trucks offer multiple ratios as options, and I could see Toyota going this route some day (it's also a way to circumvent the EPA, since only the most common configuration affects the published MPG). But swapping to shorter gears after one model year just to appease some guys on this forum? That's not how 'yota operates.

For the record, I'd be all for 3.9 gears in the 6MT; I thought 1st and 2nd were too short anyway, and I don't mind downshifting if I want more torque. Porsche is notorious for super tall gearing in their MTs, and it doesn't seem to hurt their performance.

I have a 2016 offroad....does this mean I have the weak 3.9 instead of the manly 4.3 gearing.

How does this affect power to the wheel off the line and towing ?

Can i swap out easily ?

    Very dissappointed

I don't know why people are going off some internal document when '17s are on dealer lots. Someone just go drive 70MPH on the highway and report the RPM.
