Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
I drive the fuck out of mine.

The rear one was shipped in for service when it popped, nearly everything except the shock body was replaced brand new. I'm approaching 30,000mi (quickly, if not exceeded by now) and they're still running strong.

So,what did you do when it was being rebuilt, just install a factory shock? Would be easier on the rear than the coilovers.

I do a good mix of street and dirt and expect/hope to get around 60k miles out of the ICON set I just put up. At that point I'll either get them rebuilt locally, or buy a new set and sell this one. Rebuilding every 15k miles is silly.

Keep them cleaned, lubed, and covered as necessary and they should have no problem lasting much longer than the recommended service intervals.

Agreed. If I could expect 60000 miles out of them including off roading I'd pull the trigger. 15000, not.

Had a $24/d hybrid that saved money over driving the truck when you consider tires and fuel. It COULD have been faster with a few things lined up. I believe Icon says if the shock is in their possession by Monday morning they will ship it Wednesday afternoon and I live a stroll down the highway from their office so I could have picked it up without waiting for shipping.

I do live in Hawaii, and most of its dirt, and it's mostly the coil that's rusting. But I have seen many fox coilovers rusted badly.

About 30K miles on them. But I was extremely happy with my setup. And I do actually wheel it

Awesome video! How much of a lift do you have and what size tires?

Thanks, Fox MT coilovers at about 3" front, and in the rear fox MT piggyback shocks and icon progressive mini pack at about 2" of lift. Tires are 285/75/16 MT-R.

Yeah, I'm looking at the Boss 2.5 kit. Still rebuildable though but a little more cost effective. Would probably buy a second set to install when the originals need to be rebuilt. That way I could just rotate them in and out.

They are likely basing that service interval off of people using them they way they were designed to be used on a regular basis (moderate to heavy off-roading). I've been in a truck running Kings and while it was amazing how well they handled flying over ruts and mounds of dirt off-road, I can see how they would need servicing after 50k miles if that was done regularly. If you only off-road on occasion then I'm sure you could push the service interval off further.

I would hope so. What worried me was Icons recommendation of 40-50k was only street driving. Combination of street/dirt was 15k!

I'm sure that's for optimal performance. My guess is nobody is doing that.

This is exactly why I decided against the high end coil overs and went with the complete OME kit.

    ...too much shit to list.
Shocks have oil. The hotter you get them, the more the oil breaks down. Do you also never change your oil in your truck?

Rebuild them yourself. It takes 30 minutes to rebuild a shock even if you don't know what you're doing.
Nitrogen setups are only about $200 and takes no special tools other than the nitrogen regulator and tank.

Build thread in sig... 4-link long travel
most people are overthinking their "dirt use". if you get out and wheel once or twice a month, or if you hit up some dirt trails every weekend......you're still in the street use category. if you fit the bill for the 50/50 street dirt category, it's highly likely that you're Tacoma is not your daily driver.

in general, if you daily your Tacoma, consider it street use. if you only street drive it when you are driving to your off road location of choice or the occasional weekend stroll, street/dirt. if you trailer it to the trails, dirt only.

When I get to this point a long travel set up is going back in its place. :D By that time I'll probably have another daily driver so this will be my toy truck.

Probably over thinking it. The new TRD Pro comes with Fox coilovers. Will be an issue for anyone who owns one.
