improvements on the most part haven't tried cruise yet. I still get a little flare from 2nd to 3rd, my only gripe is the noisy engine but that's another thread

Had TSB performed this morning and I'm not seeing that much of a change. I have not taken it on the highway yet to check out cruise control which is where I noticed most of my problems, going to do that right now and I will report back. Also they did not mention the TSB number in the work order or install a sticker under my hood.

I noticed a pretty good difference right off the bat. Feel like it's petered out a bit since putting 800 miles or so on it. But it is still better than before the TSB. I'd be intrigued with how many folks are getting lip service from dealers and they're not actually doing the update. If your service records indicate it was done, maybe you could take to another dealer and complain about symptoms but don't tell them you took it elsewhere (don't think dealer to dealer talks really) so you can see if they can try to update it.

Worth a shot and won't cost you anything but some time.

Mine was pretty apparant in the change right away. Still in the learning process though, spent a week on travel away from the truck so still witholding final judgement on the fix. Still no negative effects to report yet after 3 weeks and about 600 miles on the truck since the reflash now, 7.6k total

I went to the Rogers Dealer to have it done. Just got back from my Highway test with Cruise and it dose seem to be fixed no more hunting for the right gear and when I get to the crest of a hill it upshifts now like it should.

I had my TSB scheduled for today cancelled. After reading all the threads about it, I don't think I need it. I don't have issues 1 and 2, and haven't used cruise enough to know on 3. Mine was MFG in May2016, two months before the TSB but I'm thinking the software might have already been fixed at the factory by the time mine was built. Thanks for all the info!

The TSB shows which VINs are affected. If yours is on there I would get it done. If not then lucky you.

The TSB has made me enjoy my truck so much more. I have yet to want to use my ETC PWR button because lack of get up and gear searching. My wife noticed the difference as well. I feel like there would be hardly any complaints about the tranny and motor if this is how the truck was released. The passing power on the highway at 75MPH with the AC on is enjoyable as well. None of that bullshit 6th to 4th just because you want to go a bit faster.

I've got 500 miles since my update.
My only issue I thought I had before was the Reverse to Drive delay (it was bad, 3-5 full seconds when cold). I did occasionally also get downshifting when coasting also.
When driving away from the dealer I didn't really know anything had been done, truck wasn't cold so I couldn't test delay, and shifting seemed the same in the interstate for my 40 mile trip home. Downshift when coasting didn't always happen anyway.
Since then I haven't had the delay once, or the downshift when coasting, and the truck continues to get better. It is much peppier driving around town, and that shows I probably really did have more of a problem before. It didnt drive a whole lot different than my lifted 04 4Runner (same engine and trans as 2nd gen) with heavy E rated 285 BFG KOs. Now the stock Taco feels faster and more fun to drive (as it should).
This truck feels like it gets better with some miles since the update in my opinion.
I never use cruise control so I can't add anything there except that we do use it on our 2014 RAV4 as we take that vehicle on our longer road trips, and the shifting logic seems way out of whack in cruise on that car, probably similar to what the Taco was doing. We used it on the 4Runner a few times only when towing (the only reason we would take that truck on a road trip instead of a more fuel efficient vehicle), and when towing at least cruise control was never smooth either. I don't think highly of Toyotas cruise control no matter the vehicle.

It seems to be better after the TSB but not sure that was the actual intent of the TSB. You'll have to get it done and then see if it improves or fixes it over the longer term.

I'm pretty sure the TSB had more fixes that were not listed to us. Just like any update for a program like an iPhone, they list the main fixes or improvements but leave out things as well. But I doubt we will ever know for sure.

Probably fixes more characteristics with the programming, the three symptoms listed just whittle down eligibility for the update.

Well I had mine updated yesterday and the shop foreman said this TSB was only listed to resolve the R to D lag even though it shifts differently now (better). So maybe you're right perhaps other fixes/updates were not listed when sent out to dealers. It was Crown Toyota in SoCal.

I agree Toyota is not very transparent with communication to their consumers

Check the pdf of the TSB. It lists affected VINS. It's on first page of this thread first post
