Thanks, I just roller over 75K and am switching to M1EP at next oil change (have been running the regular M1).

Do you test any of your oil?

No, I have not. Just read a little here & there (here and BTOG) of reports where these oils seem to hold up quite well.

I'm not one to be overly analytical with these type of things. I've been running M1 in all my vehicles forever (20+ years) and I have no intention of switching. Once my warranty (Toyota Platinum Extended) is over, I'm extending from 5000 mile OCI to 7500 mile OCI and if I can bump that up to 10,000, even better. I run the OEM oil filter too btw.

I use amsoil full synthetic since I bought the truck new. They say you can run it up to 25000 miles between oil changes. Never had a problem yet as of now the truck has 125000 miles and has never given me a problem what so ever

I plan to do 10k mile intervals with my truck, using synthetic, now that the warranty has expired. If I do a lot of towing or off-road driving I may bump it back to 7500 miles. At the first oil change under this plan i'll send a sample in for analysis and adjust from there.

Do you take it 25,000 miles? Do you change the filter between changes? And where do you get yourAmsoil?

I've been thinking of switching. I put about 25k miles a year on my truck.

I believe in synthetics, no question, but 25k is just too many miles for any currently produced syn oil. That's too much blowback, contamination and depletion of add pack. With syn oil prices down, and rebates making them as cheap or cheaper than dino oil, syns are a no brainer. I put the max at 10k give or take. When you push oil change intervals out longer, then oil analysis is mandatory, or you're risking your engine. To me, I'd just do a more conservative oci, rather than analysis, better for my engine. I'd just do somewhere between 7.5k and 10k, wherever you feel comfortable. I mean, when you can get 5 qt of pennzoil platinum for $13 after rebate, why worry?

I use Super Tech synthetic oil. Toyota yzzd3 filter, change every 6 months. I was averaging 4K miles in six months. lol even less now. :p

Oil analysis is the only way to know for sure, OP.

Have changed oil every 10k since I bought my truck new in June '06.. Mobil 1 w/ Toyota filters, which are far better than any other filter. Read the research here on TW. My last case of 10 OEM filters was $44 from a Toyota dealer on Ebay. Cheaper than most anything off the shelf. Truck has 266k miles so far, doesn't use oil between changes, not even totally dirty between changes, not so with other off the shelf filters I've used.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I wish I could find my report from Blackstone after a 32k mile change. Basically the oil (Mobil 1) had lost all of its additives. Only one measurement (besides the additives) was out of specification; the iron content was at 80 parts per million. They suggested I change it at 20K interval which is what I typically do now. That's about yearly for me.

As I understand with Amsoil they recommend changing the filter more often than changing the oil.
If you have a good filter you can go quite a while without changing the oil. The oil doesn't breakdown but the additives do.

You can take oil changes out quite far without worry as long as you use quality oil and filters.

Money isn't the only motivator for me to push my OCI out. I like not polluting the environment more than necessary. I also put excessive miles on my vehicle so the less work I can create for myself the better.

I use supertech too ( can't beat the price and avaiability). Have you sent a sample into blackstone. Interested to see if you had. Thx

I don't have my UOA handy either but in my 2.7L with the 6 quart sump and running the larger V6 filter, the oil was fine at 10K (Mobil 1 0w20) and could have been pushed even further.

I haven't. But I have read up over at BITOG forums where there were some reports posted. I can't find anyone to say anything bad about the oil, just the reverse, it's always positive. The last batch I bought was blended by CITGO, in the past it was Warren. Either way, tremendous value and great protection for the engine IMO.

I do the OEM filter with 10k oil changes using full synthetic (not blended) 5w-30. Started it after the Toyota Care ran out and haven't looked back since, 61k miles on it now. I did 10k synthetic changes in my turbo'ed Audi with no issues, and that's a much more highly stressed motor then the Tacoma will ever be.

If all the miles are long runs on paved highway, 10k is a no-brainer on synthetic oil, assuming the engine is in good condition. But aside from sheer mileage, when you include other factors like frequent cold starts and/or short trips, towing/hauling, wheeling, dusty conditions, extended idling, extreme heat/cold, etc... that is when we see a dropoff in the useful life of motor oil. So with this whole discussion on oil change intervals, what's most important is *how you actually use the vehicle.* That is why every vehicle's maintenance schedule has the "severe service" category with shorter intervals.

I do 10k on the synthetic and the covers any variability for the abuse I give the truck in the mountains out here. The synthetic oil claims it can go to 15k, but I haven't had it tested yet. Which reminds me to order a couple kits from Blackstone.

Cool, glad that is working for you
One thing I forgot to mention as a variable is the oil capacity. It's funny people comparing their high-strung European turbo sedan with a Tacoma... sure that's fine, since the turbo probably has twice the oil capacity.
