Seriously, I couldn't see how it was anything more than a typo, but the mass hysteria was interesting to say the least.

Now, the rear slider is worth investigating. Knowing how Toyota prices parts, it will probably not be cost effective to retro-fit...but you never know. Someone has a dealer connection and will share the info, it's just a matter of time.

Didn't know open differentials were available on 2016's. Thought limited slip was minimum. What does your window price sticker say you have if you still have it ?

Saw their commercial and showed a farmer using it... and then an average business person using it. I laughed. I think they are ugly.

@2016Tacoman All 2016 Tacomas other than the OR have open diffs and use the brakes to create a "limited slip" system. It's called eLSD (Electronic Limited Slip Differential). Honestly, it's misleading as it's not really a LSD at all, but a Limited Slip System.

I still cannot believe the excitement over the possibility of changing gears from 3.90 to 4.30.

Could have swore window stickers said LSD instead of eLSD. If so that is really misleading and misrepresented.:mad::mad:

It has nothing to do with 2016 or 2017, but my 2008 door code is A04B and I have a 3.73 (41/11) ratio 8" diff with an e-locker and w/o limited slip.
Would the axle code be for an open diff in that case since Toyota does use actual limited slip differentials?

That's a pretty terrible window button. Please tell me you pushed it? Was it mind blowing?

Btw, axle codes can change without changing final drives.

My door code says I have a 4.3 8.8" with an Open diff. My own personal testing confirms this to be only half true. I have the 4.3 8.8", but I have the eLocker as well, as it's a TRD OR 6MT. As others have said, I think the axle codes are all sorts of messed up.

I've wondered why Toyota went and screwed it all up with the Tacoma. For decades the axle codes for Hilux/Pickup and 4Runner were consistent. You could even usually trust the pinion paint color when digging through junkyards for thirds (white = 4.88, pink = 4.10, yellow = 4.56, blue = 4.30, etc.). But there doesn't seem to be any consistency anymore, at least after 2004.

Occam's Razor never fails, at least when it comes to Toyota.

Like I said, this is the company that hasn't been assed to replace the Corolla's 4AT since the Iran-Contra Affair, and they've sold a bajillion Corollas in that time. Like hell if they were ever going to replace the final drive on a one year old model, ESPECIALLY for a shorter one that would further worsen the Taco's already sub-par fuel economy.

Mark my words, the biggest change that will ever come for the 3rd Gen is power and/or height-adjustable seats. There are thousands of potential Taco customers that chose a different vehicle solely because off the bizarre seating position; it would be a relatively easy fix for Toyota to offer this feature. That said, it'll take a couple years of declining sales before Toyota will even think about it.

This sounds like something you'd expect from Detroit, just random shit thrown into cars being assembled depending on what happens to show up on the truck that day.
