Just got back from 10,000 mile service and TSB, and all I have to say is wow. My truck has a 'CZ5AN' VDS and was in the lot affected, I never experienced the first 2 issues noticeably, but the delayed upshift while in cruise control has plagued me hard since day 1. I live in a mountainous desert area, so constantly traversing spurs and mountain passes, this issue has taken quite it's toll. My dealer is in El Paso (Fox Toyota) and I live up in White Sands Missile Range, NM so I had a good chance on the way back home to see how the TSB worked, and it is a night and day difference. The highway route I take is 65 MPH speed limit, and is very hilly terrain, and has about a 500-600 ft. elevation gain between the dealer and my house over about a 55 mile distance. Normally I'm getting about 18-19 MPG with a moderately aggressive driving style, having to pass slow haulers and tractors every once in a while. This trip after TSB, 23.4 MPG!!! I'm floored. Cresting hills it will not hold onto gear over-revving anymore, and going up steep hills it didn't hit over ~3000 RPM once. I can not more highly recommend getting this update for anyone one the fence. As I said, I just got back so I'm going to continue to monitor this issue, and ensure it's been fully addressed, but I could not be happier with Toyota Service right now (Despite the fact that I did have to ask them to put the 'Authorized Modification' label on, apparently the mechanics glossed over that part). Pic of trip summary attached.

I also had mine done at Crown on Saturday. I called Wednesday to make the appointment and the service writer didn't know there was a fix. I had to point out the TSB # to him. I have been pissed with this issue for a while and had thoughts about getting rid of the truck. It feels like a completely different truck now. No more issues with R to D on cold start. Shifting is much improved as well as responsiveness.

New Mexico is ground zero for cruise control frustrations with the high speeds, open roads and hilly terrain. The trucks behavior made me want to drive into a bridge before the TSB. Now the truck drives perfect and, like you've seen, I also seem to be getting better highway mileage. My computer is at 24.2mpg after 320 miles of half town half highway driving with AC on. That would be real tank mpg close to 25mpg. I'll take that.

TSB was performed Friday morning. After driving all weekend, I can say that it drives like a completely different truck. Very pleased with the outcome.

After 3,000 miles on my TRDOR (Built 06/2016)- the biggest issue is the delayed upshift on cruise. I have to blip the throttle to coax it to upshift.

I'm going to throw 750lbs in the bed and go climb a few passes this weekend and see what happens too.

Not sure if I want to do the TSB update just yet..

Have a real new 6/2016 build and 2100 miles. Gas mileage sucks, about 16 in town and 19-20 ion the road. Shifting is not real bad as others report.
Dealer said my VIN has no notices for it.

Took it in anyway thinking I want the latest software no mater what, maybe it would help the mileage.

FOUND OLD SOFTWARE INSTALLED, they updated the software and I will see what happens. Got 17.6MPG going up 2,000 ft over 48 miles.

I had this tsb done today. No sticker was put under the hood and it didn't say tsb on the service ticket. It does say they installed the latest transmission software.

You have a 2GR engine if you had a 3.5 V6. Ask your service manager to show you the 7GR in the Toyota website...it doesn't exist. Somebody mistyped the engine type in Toyota's database.

I got my upgrade done today and what a difference! The shifting is much smoother and the premature up-shifting seems to be gone while pulling a hill. I have more "known" problem stretches of road to try, but this seems to have done the trick.

I was told the exact same thing I have a dclb 4x4 v6. The service manger said I had a 7gr,(I saw him run my VIN and copy that code down) and that the TSB was not for my truck he did agree to check the ATF though. Should I call back and tell them there is no 7GR how do I prove this to them...I took it to this dealer because that is where I bought it and its the closet to my house, I'm starting to think it may need to go somewhere else.

Is there a list online somewhere with all the engine codes that I can use as evidence if I have to argue this with them

Just to double check it would be factual to say that no 7GRs where ever put into the 2016 tacoma's

My VIN does match part of those under the TSB...

Getting a ride back to work adter dropping mine off. They said they haven't heard of a tsb for my truck and after I gave them the number they magically found it. Let's see what happens.

Dropped mine off this morning for update and fluid check. Hoping they just do it without any lip. And hoping I have some pickup in my pickup when I get her back. When I'm not in ECT mode it feels like pulling a full size truck with a small 4 cylinder.

so when they do a tsb, is it supposed to be documented somewhere in the system that a tsb was performed? i'm suspicious that all they did was reset the vcm. well, that and make sure that my seat and mirror adjustments work. seriously why in the hell do they adjust the seat to drive it into the bay. it was adjusted almost all the way forward.

I reiterated this morning that there "aint no" 7gr 2016 Tacoma ! He still wanted to argue with me. How can I put any confidence in their work ? I know the engine is a 2GR FKS. You don't have to look any farther than under the hood or at the owners manual to know this.

Probably a small female valet. I literally can not get in my wifes Lexus before moving the seat back.

The service manger agreed that it was not a 7gr and that it was a 2gr and he is looking into the tsb. I'm waiting on a call back.

Had mine done today...541 miles on it...Will test this afternoon on freeway and post update...BTW: no sticker either..They said there is none..Service advisor does not know his a-- from a hole in the wall......

They scanned the transmission instead of manually checking it.....made it clear to do manual check.....cant tell what they did....I need help and pictures if available for a DIY adjustment

Just got call from dealer....Said they have sticker and I can come get it......He thought it was just done in the computer....Asked again about fluid level checking....he said they do not pin the thermostat.....follow only the procedure provided by Toyota service manual......good answer but I am not too sure it is full
