Hey guys. I was going to make an offer on a 2016 Taco but I wanted to see if you guys think my offer is legit. I want to offer $35,000 OTD.

    MSRP: $38,100
    Dealer Price: $36,080
    Invoice:$34,646 (including delivery)
My Offer: $35,000 OUT THE DOOR

2016 TRD OR DCSB w/ P&T and all weather floor liners, door sill plates. Do I have a leg to stand on? They're probably gonna make 5 grand off of me in interest anyways.

Depends on the dealer. Around here, dealers think Tacomas are gold. We got a similar deal as what you are proposing, but we contacted the nearest 25 dealerships and told them we wanted a SR5 DCSB or LB with 4X4 and tow only and weren't too picky about the color.

Contact the internet managers via email with what you want and see what you can get..... if what you are doing doesn't get you what you want.

Edit to correct: My response above does not assume TT&L. It's purely "sale" price. TT&L isn't really up to the dealer.

Even if you got it for invoice you still are going to have to pay tax.. That's over $2,400 dollars @7% plus title, license. They usually try to tack on the TDA fee when they show you the invoice pricing as well. That's approx. $300-600 depending on location. I'd say $35k out the door is a bit optimistic.

I see you're miliTary. If you're a usaa member then go through the car buying service. It's basically truecar pricing but a usaa certified dealer honors the price typically without question and then if you finance through usaa you'll get a discount on your interest rate.

Does your $35K out the door include tax? If it does , no chance, if it doesnt then maybe.

Fwiw .. I would work from invoice up.

When you set a price, you are negotiating against yourself from that point forward.

They are going to ask how you came about that number. If invoice is 34,6xx.00, then even at invoice you will be over 35 out the door. As suggested by a few others, USAA or TrueCar is helpful sometimes, I have been able to do better on certain vehicles myself, and start at invoice. Chances are you can get 500 over invoice, then add your TTL, that´s your Out the door price.
So, if you are trying to get it for under invoice, you may have a battle on your hands depending on the dealer and how well they have been turning inventory. If you want to take a chance and wait till the 2017 hits the lot and if they still have a 2016 you have a little more to stand on, but that is a risk you must decide if you want to take.
Your statement about them making 5 grand off of you on interest has no bearing in this matter. The dealers main goal is to get the max profit on the sale that day, financing, extended warranty, other b.s. add on stuff is just all icing on the cake and they don´t factor that money in while at the salesmans desk, that all comes in play at the finance office.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm gonna get with USAA about it and see what they can do. And I will email the dealer and just lay it out there with the Invoice price.

Yea use USAA. They make it pretty damn easy. We used it on my wife's SUV. We got pre approved through usaa within seconds, click on the car we wanted in the car buying service and went to pick it up later that day.

Depends what state you're in for TTL, but 35k OTD seems like a low chance. Tacomas, especially 4wd ones, are easy sales for the dealer.

500 over invoice BEFORE tax, title license is a more realistic expectation. But like others have said, no harm in trying.

I think you'd be lucky to get $35,000 before taxes. most dealers here are charging 1,000s for nitrogen in tires and all that on the Tacomas to up the price based on popularity.

I feel like i got a GREAT deal at $38,500 OTD

    Rubber bed mat

Weather tech floor mats that the dealer threw in.

Again thanks for the advice guys. I'm mainly asking this because I've never dealt with Toyota before. But I have never paid more than invoice on a vehicle either. My last two trucks (F-150s) I paid invoice price out the door. No questions asked. I just made sure I went into the dealer on an afternoon with bad weather. People don't go car shopping in bad weather and if your the only guy in the dealership they NEED your sale. In March we bought my wife's car the day after a bad snowstorm haha. The sales manager was happy to sell me a car and I didn't pay a cent over invoice out the door. So I was wondering if Toyota dealers were the same way.

As others have mentioned the "otd" price is going to vary greatly by state due to taxes. I would say the invoice price plus TT&L would be a very fair deal. Probably better than most have gotten. Most dealers don't have many Tacomas. They have tons of Tundras though.
