So I'm going to be getting new tires in the next few months. I'm currently running 33s with stock gears and a 6 speed manual with no real problems. I'm seriously considering going ahead with getting 35s even though I can't afford to regear possibly even this year (wife's wanting to buy a bigger house assuming I'll be broke but hoping not).

Has anyone else done this and how was it? I know the general sensuous is to regear at 35s or above and I do hope that within the next few years I'll have the truck geared with front locker and dual cases, but will 35s be okay in the mean time?

Main reason for this is all my friends I snow wheel with in the winter have upgraded to 35s or bigger and they are all jeeps. Can't be the yota getting stuck while hanging with jeeps

I'd say don't get caught up with what everyone else has. Just because they have 35"s doesn't mean you're going to get stuck all of a sudden.

Lol well tall and skinny will limit trimming. But then you will sink into snow worse. 35s that are wide enough to NOT get you stuck in snow will require you to trim a shitload if im not mistaken.

I was under the impression that you had to tub if you wanted to clear 35"s and have still have full cycle of suspension.

I've been wanting to go with 35s for a while. Was planning on gearing the truck and putting in a arb front locker but had a few financial issues come up so that is getting put on the back burner for a bit. But I'm almost due for new tires and don't want 33s again

been on 35s with stock gears for 3 years. put a lot of miles and a lot of wheeling on the truck like this. even towed a 6000#+ boat/trailer combo. completely drivable......just be prepared to not spend a lot of time in 6th gear, and don't be alarmed when your acceleration stinks. I drive like a grandpa on the street, so it doesn't bother me. that doesn't mean it won't bother you though.

side note is that any extra work to fit 35s is 100% worth it when you go out wheeling.

I don't think it's very great for the transmission.

can't speak for the manual, but with the auto, my temps are in line, and when I did a drain and fill last, the fluid was in great shape. gotta drive smart though.

Thanks that's what I was hoping to hear. I'm planning on possibly gearing the truck around six months after getting tires

Yeah. Driving around isn't too rough. Climbing hills at high speeds is. At least that's where I've heard of autos struggling to find the right gear and stay in it. Luckily you can at least lock it in low

Anybody choose to do a dual case setup before gearing?

I went about 6 months on stock gears with 35s. I took it easy and didn't have any issues.

my general rule is that as soon as it starts hunting between two gears, I manually bump it down to the lower of the two until that portion of road has ended. your mileage takes a slight hit, but fuel's cheap, and it keeps the transmission healthy.
