Why would it stop if I push the clutch in though?

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Throw out bearing. Common issue on the second gens. It's not necessarily bad, they just chirp

Do you have to push the clutch all the way in to stop the noise or can you just apply some force to the pedal with your foot without actually moving the pedal?

Throw out bearing. It should not be turning or make noise when the clutch is engaged (pedal is out). If it is you don't have clearance between the rod attached to the pedal and the piston in the master clutch cylinder, or the clutch is adjusted too tight at the slave cylinder. You should be able to move the throw out fork (the thing the slave cyl presses on) when the spring is removed. Note that I have not messed with this on my Tacoma but have on other vehicles.

Of course as always your mileage may vary.

Having the throw out bearing turning all the time will wear it out prematurely (hmmm maybe I'm on to something here).

    Ha!....

    You're a good guy 10 trd taco!
Back when I was a senior in high school 1988, a buddy of mine would pick me up before school.
Drove a 1978 Z28, we would listen to Zepplin and burn one before school...
So one day, in the morning, while we are performing the ritual..
My friend says "there's a bird back in the trunk, and he keeps chirping!"
The Zepplin tunes were on of course.
I said, "I don't think there is any bird back there... "
He assures me that there is, and turns the radio down.
Sure enuff is a chirp chirp chirp.
He says "See, I told you there is a bird back there. I turn the music up so I don't have to here it!"

" Dude!, that's not a bird... That is a problem with your drum brakes!"
Sure enuff a brake shoe was loose and sliding around in there.

    Just turn up the radio!
    Problem Fixxed!

You shouldn't hear any different noise when the clutch is engaged (pedal is out). If the throw out bearing is contacting the release fingers (I'm not sure what the correct term is, the turning part of the clutch the release bearing pushes against) the clutch isn't adjusted correctly. The throw out bearing is intended to turn only when the clutch is disengaged (pedal is pushed in). I'm trying to explain as best I can.

I understand what your saying now, I had to look up a clutch schematics ... I guess it's that sleeve contacting ... Under dog racing makes that sleeve that stops the chirp... May just deal with it for a couple more weeks then replace the clutch and that sleeve to get rid of the chirp ...

I have no experience with the throw out bearing TSB or the problem. The worn thing the throw out bearing rides on (the part the sleeve goes over) might tilt the throw out bearing and cause it to contact the clutch when it's engaged. You might be able to fix it temporarily by increasing the gap between the throw out bearing and the clutch but if you increase it too much the clutch won't release completely.

I'll have to talk to my mechanic to do that type of adjustment, but I think if it's not too big of an issue I'll just ride it out till I replace the clutch ...
