It tows, but tows a whole lot different than the Tundra. Like others have said, it will handle that load but I wouldn't go any higher and you'll def feel it back there. It wasn't designed for very high towing all the time. I tow about 3k regularly and it handles it just fine. There are people up here who do tow 4k and can probably give you some better tips. There is that dedicated 3rd gen towing thread as well as a general towing sub forum. I'd check those out and they can give you some better tips.

You not only have to factor in the weight but also the drag of the trailer being pulled.Low profile trailer = less drag, higher profile trailer = more drag. Then throw in a head wind and that is more to factor in.As stated read thru the 3rd gen towing section.

This is worth repeating. Ask people who have towed with it.

I have a boat and I occasionally tow a utility trailer, however I have YET to tow with my 2016 Tacoma. I offer no real world opinion as of yet...

Go to uhaul and rent a big box trailer, throw some weight in and decide for yourself. My Jayco 195rb tows very well. It won't pull 80 mph up an 8 percent grade but that's not really safe either.

I guess once all of our transmissions blow up well know we should have listened the internet:jerkoff:

3000lb dry. I haven't weighed in yet but estimating 3600 with loaded trailer, passengers, dog and generator and cooler in the bed. It's also a baja so it's not winning any awards for aerodynamics.

One thing to bear in mind- ignore what the manufacturer states as far as weight ratings are. Find someone that has one (lots of RV forums) and see what they say, better yet find someone that has put it on a scale.

I had a truck camper made by Hallmark- Great truck camper. The 'stock' dry weight was around 1250lbs before options. I took my truck and weighed it on scale, then put the camper on 'dry' and weighed it. The camper weighed 1750lbs 'dry'. I had over 2,500 lbs 'wet' weight after all said and done.

Take the base weight ratings with a big, and I mean BIG grain of salt.

Ditto....I purchased a Weekend Warrior Carbon Lite TT...their claimed weight on it was around 4950....I told them I wanted it weighed just as it was and the weight came out to over 5400 lbs....MAKE THEM WEIGH whatever you buy. Your 4100 lb trailer will probably weigh more than they say because of the added options.

There are people that will throw the 6800 rating out there....yes that is the rating ...doubt they have towed much if anything with their truck...there is way more to it than weight rating.

I'm looking at different campers now. May have to bump down to a pop up. Thought about trading the truck but I love it

Have you looked into R-pods or Jayco Hummingbirds? They're a great size for athe Tacoma. I've seen Jeep JKs pulling Rpods. Jayco also has a few slx models that weigh as little as pop-ups.

Have you looked into hybrids? I have a 2010 Rockwood Roo 19' that's about 3,650 lbs unloaded. Granted, I'm towing with a 2nd gen v6 but your 3rd gen shouldn't have any issues with that weight or even up to 4,500 lbs. 2014-03-08 14.16.09.jpg

I haven't looked yet. I had been looking at the mini lites and Jay feather campers. I am going to look into these campers. It would be great to find one like what y'all are talking about

If you really want something nice look at the Escape FG trailers. With the Canadian/US exchange they are an attractive option.

Yikes! Delivery rate is $2/ mile... That's at least 5 grand to ship one to the east coast.

Cool looking little trailers I guess, but $5000 buys a lot of used camper
