That's where you win big time.

But sorry for that 31k deal I would have walked in there physically every day with the email history and number on the paper and ask why they aren't honoring what they said they would do. Who cares if it was their mistake, they said they would honor it even when you finally went down there.

Nobody should be taking advantage of anyone. Whether its dealer to ignorant car buyer or car buyer to ignorant dealer. Our lives would be A LOT easier and happier if we all knew what we were paying for everything from taxes, to cars, to trucks to bananas lol...seriously.

Seriously? The guy has one job, one. And that is to sell Toyota vehicles (well, probably some other makes as well if used). If you work at a Toyota dealership and don't know the details of their NUMBER ONE selling vehicle, then I'm sorry but that is not the buyer's fault in any way shape or form.

The seller settled on a price he thought was fair, and so did the buyer. Thats how buying and selling works in this industry. If the salesman doesn't know his stuff, he shouldn't be selling cars/trucks. If he is brand new to the scene, then it is the dealer's fault for not having better training and a better process in place to prevent that from happening.

The dealership should have stood behind the deal and taken it as a lesson, looked at what caused that to happen, and pursue corrective actions.

The aggravating part of this is -- that's what they said they were going to do about it. Then they chickened out after I left (or the next day when they discussed it).

Which is why I said I would have gone face to face to challenge them. And then I would have gone so far as to say that is poor business practice and damn well I would have posted exactly what dealership that was publicly (you chose not to, which is fine) and I would have recommended all friends and family stay away. Poor business practice on their part in an industry where NEGOTIATION is the biggest part of the deal. Not to mention, you got it in WRITING! They made a formal offer in writing, even after you asked multiple times "are you sure?" ONE loss of that amount on a truck would not bring that dealership down. They should have explained it was a mistake on their end, but kept the customer happy (thrilled in your case), used it to build a relationship with you, and looked at their entire sales training/approval process to see what went wrong and implemented measures to prevent it from happening in the future.

Sounds a little strange, why would you leave without signing the deal? Did the dealership not want to honor the price when you were there in person?

They said "We're having trouble locating the truck that you want since it's after hours, so we'll try again tomorrow and let you know."

We had to go pick up my son so we left, but thinking back on it a lot of what they said was total BS.

They lied. That's too bad. But it seems to be acceptable behavior nowadays, Clinton does it everyday. :sorry:

I'm just treating it as a learning experience. This is my first new car buying experience (third overall). I've tried to read plenty here and online on "what to do" during this whole process but it's harder to actually execute once you're there.

    Oh well.

I agree, the process sucks; I have walked out of 3 Toyota stealerships because the deal wasn't just "right". I am still shopping for my Tacoma. I refuse to play their sales game and won't fall for the gimmicks either. I will say this, I learned that buying at the end of the month or sales cycle definitely has benefits.

If it were me, and the $31,758 showed up in email along with the pic and hand written price, I would have called and placed the $500 deposit with my credit card RIGHT THEN. And of course politely requested the receipt for the deposit and balance remaining of $31,258.

Same thing happened to me on an F250 a few years ago. Irritating, but life goes on.

Your 32K really means nothing in context. Did you trade in another truck, you probably got less for that and they made you feel good by making you think you got a great deal but instead low balled you on the trade.

Cash doesn't mean shit anymore. I paid cash for mine and it didn't help get a better deal.
