I agree that being good with either hand is critically important, but I can't think of any situation in which I would need to have control of my throttle AND a handgun on a motorcycle.

If you're using the throttle, you're escaping. If you're firing the weapon, you're fighting. On a motorcycle... I just don't see mixing the two as a good solution.

Slightly separate topic: does anybody have a particularly good place to mount a handgun safe in these trucks?
For those times that you can't take it with you when you leave the car, but don't want to leave it just hanging around in the glove box or console.

    Something like this:

I have the same problem. I haven't looked but I wonder if it would be possible to squeeze the holster between the seat and center console. Even more concealed because it would be sandwiched, but also a little slower to access. I guess worse case you could draw weak hand unsupported and address the threat quickly before switching to strong hand. As I suspect most confrontations when the weapon might be needed would be close enough to require target focus shooting anyway...

This is easy to address...if/when stopped have all your information in your left hand including your CCW permit with the vehicle turned off and keys in your right hand, both up on the steeirng wheel with all windows rolled down when the officer approaches. Immediately inform him/her you have the legal ability to carry and it is in your vehicle and where. They will tell you how they want to proceed in a way that will help them be comfortable with a weapon in the vehicle.

Lastly, follow their instructions, regardless of how you feel about them. After all they are just doing their job and trying to go home to their families safely each night....the side of the road during a potentially high stress situation is not the appropriate forum to address your greivances in this situation...IMO.

Check out the Highway Holster link I posted above. It is a no drill installation. Mounts on the straps for the seatbelt receiver and uses a single piece of Velcro to control vertical movement. The bar is padded with foam and fits snugly between the seat and center console, leaving a small section just in front of the edge of the seat where you can clip a holster to it. Puts your gun right where you can easily reach it next to your right knee and draw right handed.

All the shifting about in the vehicle to prep for the officer's approach is more likely, IMO, to cause them concern than just turning on the dome light (if dark) and keeping your hands on the wheel. YMMV. No CCW required in my state for car carry.

No duty to inform in my state. I'll inform them if the encounter is likely to result in their observation of a weapon on my person or within my reach.

    Agreed.

As am I. LEOs tend to be a little jumpy these days and justifiably so. I don't want to get greased on account of making a "furtive movement." I've encountered hot head LEOs once or twice and that's why I choose not to OC.

To me, this is more scary than the legally carrying drivers: "I usually drive with my arm over the passenger seat naturally,...". Seriously, if you ever need to make a panic evasive maneuver, your ability to react is going to be compromised by driving like that. At 60 mph you're going 88 feet per second. How far ahead are you regularly scanning the road- 30 yards (90 feet)? How much of that distance are you going to travel before you have full control of your vehicle? I see people driving like this (too) frequently. First thing I try to do is safely get ahead of them. No way am I going to stay behind them should something go wrong and they lose (1 'o', not two for this word!) control trying to while their arm is whipping back around to take full control of the wheel.

No duty to inform where I am at either, but I do it anyway. Even if I am in uniform in my POV I let them know I have my duty weapon on my hip...Maybe I do it because I know personally, someone doing the same thing would help me relax a bit if I were the one who initiated the stop and was standing at the window.

This is getting way off topic, but I will bite. If you aren't moving, you are a stationary target. If you are "escaping" without returning fire, you are an easy moving target. Besides, unless you are a criminal, fleeing the scene of a crime, why would you be escaping? I would much rather picture myself the hero in this fantasy, chasing down the bad guys, who have just kidnapped the female co-star. All the while returning fire with my legal concealed carry weapon, with bottomless magazine, and dodging bullets matrix style on my motorcycle, which magically changes from a crotch rocket to a dirt bike, depending on the stunt I am performing!

First off, I'm just seeing this thread. I like what the OP did and fantastic write up.

Secondly, some people choose to carry and others choose not to. to each their own so let's not put someone on blast for choosing to not be around firearms.

You may want to check and make sure it doesn't interfere with the knee airbags. My 2010 4Runner had the knee airbags so anything u see there was a no go for me. I've considered putting one on the door down low by the little storage compartment.

I have a CC Permit because my ex girlfriend was robbed outside of her car at knifepoint while putting groceries in her car. I have a 9mm handgun in my truck at all times. Have not used it yet outside of the range. Don't plan on ever using it outside of the range. Ever. I too respect the views of people who are not comfortable around weapons, but I will never disarm myself to please people who are uncomfortable around them. Whether they think so or not, they are safer around a individual with a CC permit.

Back to the original post, what a great idea! Also I love the Freedom Accessories method. I would rather have my Glock 19 somewhere safer than floating around the cupholder in the door.

I would love to carry, crap for that matter be able to buy a gun! But here in good ole MD we can't carry and the act of buying is more effort than I care to put up with. So I will continue to carry a can of wasp spray that shoots 20'. Better than nothing!

If you were to drill more more toward the front of the vehicle would there be an issue concerning wiring? Also, what kind of screw size do you suggest? I'll be doing something similar but not with the holster shown here. Appreciate any help you can give.

Does your state not recognize the second amendment?o_O Is it a "shall issue" or "may issue"?
We have it pretty bad here in CA, but still able to obtain a CCW permit.

Alien Gear just came out with something that should work pretty well for this application.
    http://aliengearholsters.com/cloak-dock-holster-mount.html/

I'm not going to put this in my truck because I prefer to keep my gun holstered and on my person. However if I were to do it I would mount my gun somewhere similar to the picture I took. I reached up back behind there and didn't feel any wires or anything.

As far as screws are concerned... Any self tapping screw with pretty course threads would work well I would think.

Please buy some actual pepper spray. Wasp spray isn't as effective as facebook says it is.
